Brexit Brinkmanship?

Do you get the impression that the EU negotiators/pioliticians are content to keep bouncing the ball back to UK and complaining about the UK not producing "satisfactory" proposals? As if they are simply dragging things out until the UK is facing a cliff edge departure, in the hope this will force us into delaying if not abandoning our departure, like it or not?

IMO both sides will be playing with a 'poker' face clearly looking for a deal that makes them winners rather than looking for a 'best case down the middle' option.............and to be honest I wouldn't expect anything less of the negotiators.

UK left the EU so it's up to UK Government to get their act together and start coming up with something bloody fast......we have until March 29th 2019 which isn't a lot of time. They are in the strongest position because we were the ones who ran off, not them. If you walk away from your marriage, expect your ex-husband/wife (whoever you left) to give you a tough time

The reality is the EU will never offer the free trade terms out of the EU we have when we are in, or the EU would fall apart.

And the likes of car manufacturers depend on them to ship components around Europe to keep their production lines going.

But perhaps the Brexiteers don't really care as long as they 'take back control' *-)

Before anyone starts crying about how they don't like the terms why don't we all just wait and see how it pans out.

Even Queen Nicola seems to think that is her best option after most people either side of the great divide (border) got fed up with hearing her whingeing.

Because we already know how it will pan out.

The Government will come back from Brussels with a dogs dinner and present it as a success.

TM's fawning worshippers have gone noticeably quiet since her spectacular fall from grace losing her halo in the process.

Her "crackdown" on fat cat company bosses pay is good comedy though. About as much tooth to it as a fart in the wind.

Looks like the usual protagonist whingers have all the answers again......a monopoly on crystal balls guys?  If you guys have all the answers why not offer your services to the negotiating team?  I'm sure they will be well impressed with your armchair debating skills.....not.

Well of course if they really wanted to crack down on Fat Cat company bosses (Like Sir Martin Sorrell on £42million a year despite 7 years consecutive shareholder rebellions) they would just increase the higher rate of income tax. Instead of reducing it and increasing stealth taxes like VAT that hit the poor the hardest.

At the risk of stating the obvious, whoever is doing the negotiating the 27 other countries in the EU won't agree to give us a better deal out than we got when we are in - or everyone else would leave too!!.

But the Brexiteers don't seem to care as long as they 'take back control' for themselves.

So they will take what they can get and, aided by the Tory press, dress it up as a better deal than we had when we were in..

Anyone with any integrity wouldn't want a part in that, and wouldn't be offered one.

It would be like Edwina Currie - the agriculture minister sacked for honesty when she said most English chickens had salmonella.

......and if thats not bad enough Theresa May has lost her credibility by calling a snap election after she said she wouldn't. So how can the EU trust anything she says :-S

Man of honour Jeremy would be much better suited for negotiations of course and when you weigh up heading the table on the other side is the lady whose made the worst political decision in modern times ... Mrs May is perfect

I wonder how many Brexiteers - who want to take back control - use sat-navs ?

;-)

Steady on Malc......they were confused about where the EU is so a sat-nav would be a bit too high tech.

You mean Angela Merkel?

Well at least she didn't say she wouldn't call an election, and then call one.

And since Germany has just posted another record surplus, whilst Britain posted another record deficit saying it can't afford to maintain the state pension (which is one third of Germany's state pension) its hard to see what political lessons Britain can teach Germany *-)

Why so concerned when you voted to leave it? You should be concentrating on where UK is going.....not EU.

Never questioned Germany's ongoing economic success did I ? ... She will be remembered for one of the worst political decisions of all time , an open invite to the world's scumbags and will need all the extra cash her country can generate for welfare , crime , healthcare and everything else those little darlings are going to cost and given the very dark and gloomy forecast for Germanys future by Germany's biggest bank then it might get a bit sticky ... The biggest cost of course isn't financial but the ruining of a fine country

It is interesting how much BBC news does not report fully on this, and other matters.

You only have to view France 24, RTN and other English speaking foreign news casters on Freesat or Freeview to see a whole different perspective of the EU, and how ragged at the edges the original concepts are changing.

Whatever the Brexit, hard, soft or flat on your face, the EU will be totally different in10 to 15 years.

I've just spent some time in Germany among friends and believe me your "concerns" are ill founded based on little other than conjecture and alt right media rags feeding the xenophopbes. Your sweeping generalisations, seething hatred and contempt, is notorious Antony and you really should throw off your keyboard warrior suit for a bit and go and spend some meaningful time among people living there.
