Bright Young Things

Our young people are out enjoying themselves from Brighton to Bondi Beach to Central Park.

Local pubs in my town were full of them getting in their last jollies before the boozers shut. No social distancing or regret that they might contract Covid-19 and pass it on to their parents and friends.

These are the young people that all the Remainers claimed are more intelligent and sensible than us codgers who voted for Brexit.

All the codgers I know are much more clever than these idiots.

Totally irresponsible but we have shown our true colours sadly in this crisis. However what is even more irresponsible is Johnsons light touch approach telling pub owners to shut when they can be bothered on Friday night. All they had to do was shut them on Thursday afternoon at say 4pm when everyone was at work and we wouldnt have seen the ridiculous scenes we have as everyone had a last Friday night pish up. Unforgivable IMO.

People taking to the highlands in motorhomes, people going to the beach in crowds and all we are seeing from government and officials is a bit of finger wagging. Prolly too late now. So much for "flattening the curve".

The old Brexiter codgers have taken to their motorhomes to crowd out remote and beautiful places where NHS resources are geared for small populations. I do hope localities prioritise locals above visitors in terms of ventilators. Beano Boris is smirkey about it all at the best of times. There should be a Government of National Unity now so that the country is run for the safety of the population and not on the grounds of political ideology......This government is a calamity for the people. They should have a massive advertising campaign running continuously on all media to inform the population of the dangerousness of this disease for all except children.......no more ambiguous confusing messages.

No surprises for guessing who was behind this herd immunity bollox. The unelected Bond Villain President Cummings.

And even posting their ventures on YouTube. Only last night i viewed a clip of an elderly couple who decided to set off in their motorhome with toad in tow to "self isolate" (their definition) on a camping site, where on arrival they promptly took a walkabout of the site to view the amenities. Not a care or thought that any virus carrier may well have already been there. *-)

A Scottish MSP is livid at the crass selfishness of people with second homes and campervans reportedly travelling to the area in recent days.

Inverness and Nairn MSP, Mr Ewing said: “I am furious at the reckless and irresponsible behaviour of some people travelling to the Highland and Islands. This has to stop now. Let me be crystal clear, people should not be travelling to rural and island communities full stop. They are endangering lives. Do not travel.

Well said Pauline....i couldn't agree more.

So in these difficult times of closed boarders in the EU, some banning of export of medical supplies, ordering out other nationals ,just how long is the EU going to survive. Italian members of Parliament have discussed this week leaving the EU. There is no coherent strategy it’s every country for itself. Which next bright young things are going to pick up the pieces?

Oh yes a government system that would ensure we were all dead while they prevaricated in countless committees.

What has this government done? Given support to the workforce of this country, Gained the support of the private health organisation which adds thousands of ventilators hospitals and nursing staff and doctors, Gtech have designed a ventilator consisting of off the shelf parts after being one of the many company's asked to help.

You can't legislate against stupidity, selfishness, greed and ignorance.

Don't worry, they're the usual populists (Fratelli d'Italia and especially Lega).

The latter left the previous government not to face the 2020 budget and now, wartime, they have lost all political visibility.

Visibility they are desperately trying to regain.

What better way than to talk about the European Community and its leave ?

Populism, only shameful populism.

In any case, the Community has blocked protectionist attempts on the export of medical material.

For example, Germany sent about forty medical fans to Italy yesterday.

The Community has allocated € 700B to deal with the emergency.

Discussions have started on the possible issue of "Corona Eurobonds" guaranteed by the Community and not by individual nations.

Not bad it seems to me for such an opposed organization, don't you think ?

Actually I think you are wrong. The Eu is running around trying to put out fires, with 1 bucket of water. They were in a mess before the current crisis, I think it’s terminal now. Populism ,what is Populism ,it’s just a fashionable word the media thought up. There’s a lot of unhappy Europeans out there.

Sure, many Europeans are unhappy. But other countries are pushing to get in and take its advantages.

About Populism:

Populist politics, following this definition, revolves around a charismatic leader who appeals to and claims to embody the will of the people in order to consolidate his own power.

In this personalized form of politics, political parties lose their importance, and elections serve to confirm the leader’s authority rather than to reflect the different allegiances of the people.

Populist is often used pejoratively to criticize a politician for pandering to a people’s fear and enthusiasm.

Depending on one’s view of populism, a populist economic program can therefore signify either a platform that promotes the interest of common citizens and the country as a whole or a platform that seeks to redistribute wealth to gain popularity, without regard to the consequences for the country such as inflation or debt.

Exactly the word is just popular gobbledygook. It means nothing. Brexit was described as Populism. It’s just a media description. All is not well in the house of cards.

I was talking about Italy and our local populisms.

I can't care less about Brexit.

You made your decision, from original 52% in favour to current 80%.

Far from me to discuss it, I repeat, your internal disputes do not interest me.

I only refute foreign interpretations of what is happening in my country.

I hope I explained myself.

What has this government done?

Over the last ten years they have created a shortage of nurses, doctors, hospital beds, ventilators, safety equipment ( and police) and are now struggling to catch up.

Horse, stable door, and bolted, come to mind.

:-(

Nail on head.....but would also add Paramedics, Ambulances and emergency call centre staff too. :-|
