Wingpete
My suspicion of the cause would be that the oil impregnated decking has been sanded, and the resulting wood dust soaked in ancient veggie oils, piled up into little mound, allowing spontaneous combustion to ignite the material. This would take several hours of smouldering before bursting into flame. That weekend, the circumstances seem to be just right. Only a nighidiotchman onboard. >:-( This is a known cause of fires and renovators of buildings should know of it, but who is supervising contractors these days ?
