Bulletguy
With the Coronavirus outbreak gathering pace with 41 deaths and 830 confirmed cases, China is building a brand new 1000 bed hospital in a staggering six days. 8-) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51245156 Less than a day after construction started, they announced plans for a second 1300 bed hospital dedicated to coronavirus patients. https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/25/china-build-second-new-hospital-cope-killer-coronavirus-outbreak-12121352/ Meantime back in September; https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/boris-johnsons-40-new-hospitals-20327320

You are locked up in there to live or die. I think it was clear from the start that they were pre-fabricated buildings set up as isolation units. Just like a large dormitory. Much like the old TB sanitoriums we used to have many years ago. :-|

John52
I read the Chinese built 25 cities whilst Britain argued about another strip of Tarmac at Heathrow. But its like the Romans building straight roads I suppose. They were a conquering army, so no need to bother about who the land belonged to, who would be affected and need to be consulted, NIMBY protests, planning permissions, getting estimates, drawing up contracts etc etc. They just did it. It's also interesting to look at our import/export record with China. In 2018 we exported just £22.6 billion of goods and services whilst we imported a whopping £44.7 billion from them. https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7379 Seems we also need them to build Hinkley nuclear plant and rescue our steel industry....even black cab taxis are now Chinese owned. Bulletguy
colin - 2020-02-09 11:20 AM https://www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/news/3870468 Colin.....the first is an odd source. First thing i questioned is why the reporter speaks with a noticeable US/Canadian accent despite her obvious Chinese appearance. May have something to do with the fact their HQ is based in New York. Gets a bit more weird when i found NTD TV is founded by a group of Chinese-American Falun Gong practitioners, a cult like 'religion' which supports social conservatism, segregated paradises and anti-communism, so that explains the attraction to a western audience, in particular conservative Americans. in essence, it is a mouthpiece of ‘Falun Gong’ in cult and anti-China propaganda. The Taiwan News link holds more credibility and on media fact checking, rates as the least biased source. Reporting since 1949 with its HQ based at Taiwan. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/taiwan-news/ The problem with this virus outbreak is just what is China supposed to do? Isolate, contain and treat....or do nothing and allow folks to wander freely around? It seems to me very much a case of damned when they do and damned if they don't. A cruise ship that docked in Italy a couple of weeks ago was quarantined with 6000 passengers on board due to a husband and wife passengers from Macau who had fallen ill with a high fever. They've since been cleared and all passengers released....but not until the Italian authorities were satisfied. I don't see that as an over reaction by the Italians, but a sensible one though not before the Mayor had clashed with the harbour master! https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/30/6000-passengers-stuck-on-cruise-ship-in-italy-over-coronavirus-fears Italy is flying 60 Italians back home from Wuhan to be quarantined in "a military facility" for two weeks. Lets hope when they land they do things differently to UK when we flew Brits back from China, the passengers arrived wearing paper face masks - useless - with each coach accompanied by a 'guard' in full Hazmat gear.....but the poor coach drivers appear to have drawn the short straw! :-S

The question still remains though Colin, just what are China supposed to do....quarantine by containing and treat, or just let folk wander freely around? If they did the latter, ie nothing, they'd be widely condemned and rightly so.
