Guest pelmetman
To rent out the MIL's bungalow we need a epc...........It failed because we didn't have cavity insulation *-) ........ So we weren't allowed to rent it 8-) ........... Then they said if we change the bulbs to low energy, block up the fire places to ***prevent drafts*** and put another jacket on the immersion tank we'd scrape through :-| ......... Decided to get it cavity insulated anyway for when we move there.........they are here now and have according to the rules!!!...........knock in two vents for the fires to ***provide drafts*** despite them being Baxi fires with built in underfloor draft vents >:-( ....... Birdbrain
Word of warning with the cavity fill ... Im sure you know it can cause problems ... 2 rentals we had suffered with damp drawing through the cavity on the insulation ... Not good
Barryd999
That all sounds very sensible to me.

Yeah but Pelmet prefers the nostalgia of gas mantle lighting, linoleum, net curtains, valve radios and wind up gramophone with 78's. (lol)

As there appears to be as many firms who extract insulation as install it 8-) ...... I've done my due diligence and gone for the bead insulation as the bungalow is built from Portland stone........ We've used a local firm that been around for 30 years and works for councils etc.........plus they do extractions ;-) ........
jumpstart
Underfloor drought vents draw air from air bricks normally, the cavity fill possibly will block these vents. There shouldn’t be any moisture getting through the insulation but that doesn’t stop damp in the walls.
