FBU responds to Mays claim

Like many i was shocked to hear May giving herself congratulatory pats on the back over Grenfell during her resignation speech this morning (hmm...theres another so called 'politician' with a habit of doing the same).

She said “the unique privilege” of being prime minister was to be able “to give a voice to the voiceless, to fight the burning injustices that still scar our society”.

“And that is why I set up the independent public inquiry into the tragedy at Grenfell Tower – to search for the truth, so nothing like it can ever happen again, and so the people who lost their lives that night are never forgotten.”

FBU General Secretary responded;

Many of the underlying issues at Grenfell were due to unsafe conditions that had been allowed to fester under Tory governments and a council for which Theresa May bears ultimate responsibility.

The inquiry she launched has kicked scrutiny of corporate and government interests into the long grass, denying families and survivors justice, while allowing business as usual to continue for the wealthy.

For the outgoing prime minister to suggest that her awful response to Grenfell is a proud part of her legacy is, frankly, disgraceful.

Though that's never been denied by myself in the long running Grenfell thread, it's the first time i've actually seen you finally admit Tory culpability as it's impossible to deny whose watch it occurred under or the shenanigans by Mays government to deny families and survivors justice.

The FBU Gen secretary is right.

Nope, only one party ignored the advice from inquiries into earlier smaller tragedies. In their rush to free the building industry from that "red tape" the Tories reduced building regulations to a ticking box exercise, privatising inspections. Its Grenfells blood on their hands.

Seen as your on some sickening point scoring mission around "ignored" warnings I am confused given your activism history as to why youve never posted your concern over the very many "ignored" warnings regarding sex gangs up and down the country
