Still Farting in the wind looking for anything to discredit Brexit then Pat!

This is the real gist what Honda allegedly said and it might or might not be Brexit related but it also involves other factors not the least of which is the global downturn of new car sales in general and in particular diesel cars, many of which are made or assembled at Swindon.

Honda is planning to close its plant in Swindon by 2022.

The move jeopardises 3,500 jobs.

The company has not given any reasons for the closure, but we may get more details later this afternoon.

It’s not Brexit. It’s overcapacity. It’s China. It’s Diesel engines. Its global pressure. It’s Remainers not believing enough. The dog ate my homework.

Must be exhausting to continue denying the catastrophe unfolding, rather than admit you were wrong.

You believe what you want - all I said was 'Honda's actions might or might not be Brexit related'.

Do try to keep an open mind, wait for the official announcement, and not be brainwashed by the other whingers.

They are hardly going to come out saying "we're shutting down purely due to Brexit" are they? But it's pretty obvious it's been a major factor in their decision and Honda was just one of the carmakers who warned May last year of the consequences.

After all, prior to Brexit Honda were still manufacturing here and had no plans to close down. So what''s changed since then over the past three years eh? You can only sit on the fence for so long Richard. Time you jumped down as this is what you voted for. Remember, Dyson says, "Brexit will be good for Britain"......that's why he cleared off to Singapore so he has FTA with the EU market.

Germany: Ford announces massive job cuts at its Saarlouis plant

By Ulrich Rippert

14 December 2018

The offensive against autoworkers across the globe is intensifying. Hardly a week goes by without a new round of job cutting. Following General Motors’ announcement of the closure of five plants in the US and Canada and the elimination of nearly 15,000 hourly and salaried workers, Ford has announced its own plans for huge job cutbacks.

Are they being closed because of Brexit? ;-) ............

OK, lets try another tack. :-D Hands up who thinks Brexit will actually help the motor industry?

These decisions are seldom made on the basis of a single indicator, but adding a completely unnecessary supply impediment, plus added costs, to an already fragile market, in one particular country, is hardly likely to persuade manufacturers in that country to say "what the hell, lets just stay and see how things pan out", is it? More likely to say "right, that's the last straw, let's relocate elsewhere and avoid the disadvantages just as soon as the existing model runs are due for replacement".

There are hundreds of £millions, if not £billions, in investment involved in these operations. Do people really think pan-national companies are going to site their production facilities where they incur comparative disadvantage? Britain is as it always has been: a low wage, high cost country.

The reason most of these companies are here is because they gained attractive incentives to come, for some also because our language is English, but above all because they gained tariff free access to the large, wealthy, EU market.

That tariff free access is now under threat from Brexit. Is anyone really surprised that the firms are deciding to leave as and when it suits them? Really? Deep down really?

Ye Gods, does everyone now believe in fairies and unicorns?

Of course Bexit is contributory, but it is not as stated by some to be the only or even always the principle reason.

And please do not bring fairies and unicorns into disrepute, for tis only they wot keeps us sane!

You can't handle the truth!!!

When did Sony, Panasonic etc make cars? These Japanese companies came to Britain on the basis that it would be their gateway into Europe. You've managed to shut the front door at the same time that the Japanese have opened the back door, with the sliding tariffs on direct Japanese imports within the EU / Japanese trade deal - you know the one they have already said they will not replicate for the UK and that we will have to negotiate another new trade deal post brexit. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/feb/18/fox-and-hunts-japanese-fumble-is-a-sign-of-uks-weakness

What are you doing looking at Socialist websites......funny but i can't hear you shouting FAKE NEWS!! (lol)

And if you read a more current link from the same website, you'd see GMC in the US and Canada are closing down five plants with the loss of 15,000 with a further two plants planned to close in North America.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2019/01/11/ford-j11.html

Incidentally Ford-Werke GmbH employ 38,000 workers in total with 1,600 at Ford-Saarlouis to go....but then Ford is investing 200 million euros in Craiova, Romania, for the production of another model. The number of Ford workers in Romania is to be increased by 1,500 to 6,000.

Are they being closed because of Brexit? ;-) ............

Looks like it....from your own link which you don't read.

Couple of points about Honda & Swindon.

90% of the cars it produces go to other EU countries.

That makes that factory a base of production almost exclusively for the European Single Market.

The UK has said it will leave that market.

It's now closing its UK factory.

Err....but, but....errr we got "our" blue passports back!!! (lol)

The reason most of these companies are here is because they gained attractive incentives to come, for some also because our language is English, but above all because they gained tariff free access to the large, wealthy, EU market.

Nope not surprised at all. Why else are over 250 UK companies currently in talks with the Netherlands to relocate, why else has banking moved over £800 billion to Frankfurt, (talking of which...why else has Rees-Mogg opened up a hedge fund account in Dublin whose portfolio lists the "uncertainty of Brexit" under it's risk factors?), why else has arch pro-Brexiteer Dyson shipped all production out of UK to Singapore after they signed fta's with the EU.....and so the mass exodus continues!!

Incidentally, for someone so rabidly anti-EU as Farage who "doesn't want to be part of a 'German European Union' ".....then makes sure two of his kids have German passports. The hypocrisy of Brexiteers is staggering.

Sorry fairies! :-D But really, saying it isn't the reason, in seeking to imply it isn't a reason, is the equivalent of the child's game of covering your eyes and saying "you can't see me"!

Those who voted for Brexit burst the dam and unleashed the flood. Those who drown won't be that interested in whose vote actually broke the dam. They all did.
