Arm yourselves with white flags if they win the next election folks *-) ..........

More Mad Hatter hyperbole from his Beano comic. *-)

This is an opinion of one MP and wouldn't matter even if Labour were in power. Fwiw here is a Tory MP who has openly said Trident is used as a political weapon rather than a deterrent for UK security and described the cost as "the “most egregious act of self-harm to our conventional defence”.......and his party are in power.....so why aren't you waving your little white flag around at them? *-)

This would be true if he had not been appointed by JC himself and it does beg the question - was that specific appointment made just so JC could pursue his own agenda on a non or ineffective nuclear attitude contary to party published policy?

Unelectable with that official policy but nothing to stop him making whatever looney policy he fancied if ever he fraudulently wormed his way into power.

Nobody will ever know whether a nuclear deterent has worked for over 70 years and to me that alone is well worth the monetary cost which is infinitely better than the alternative human and monetary cost.

Trident is, as Polaris was, a huge waste of money - but do you feel lucky enough to chance it?

Big deal so what? Still the opinion of one MP. Do you seriously believe one person has the power to overrule his own party, his own leader, and push a decision through Parliament alone?

Actually i think you really do believe that's how it works. *-)

Even Corbyn on his own couldn't....not without ripping up their manifesto and persuading a majority to back him.

‘Labour supports the renewal of the Trident nuclear deterrent. As a nuclear-armed power, our country has a responsibility to fulfil our obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Labour will lead multilateral efforts with international partners and the UN to create a nuclear-free world’ From the Labour manifesto.

Crispin Blunt makes a valid point though about it being a "the most egregious act of self-harm to our conventional defence”.

Folk are a bit behind the times though. Nukes are all old hat (though the US still love hanging onto theirs) to the point we have a number of decommissioned nuclear powered subs waiting to be scrapped. Cyber attacks are way more effective, far more damaging, and can happen in nanoseconds.

Not a lot of point in spending loadsa money on Trident if JC publicly states that he would NEVER use it or any other nukes is there?

Better off renovating the old cold war nuclear bunkers so at least him and his cronies will be OK.

Unelectable - jeez I certainly hope so - JC's a toss up between a disgrace and a disaster.

And it still begs the question - why create a peace minister and why appoint a CND activist unless you want someone else to propogate your personal views?

I don't think any leader/PM has been quite daft enough to publicly state they would fire off a nuclear bomb to murder tens of thousands of innocent people.........except May. And why? Because knowing Corbyns view on nuclear weapons she seized the opportunity for some political point scoring, which is exactly what Tory MP Crispin Blunt means about how it's become abused by politicians.

A PM who has history of U turns is not someone best suited to be in charge of a nuclear bomb either. And who else spends £billions building a couple of aircraft carriers.....only to use 50% of their carry capacity they were designed for because we can't afford the planes?

In an ever changing and uncertain world better a PM with enough guts to adapt national policy when the conditions change than someone who blindly insists he is right and shows no sign of any flexibility whatsoeve.

On a positive note, under jobs for the boys creation the new ministry of peace should give those loyal party members already in work a few more quid in their pockets.

Impressive eh?

Which means as soon as they're in power they'll unilaterally lead the way....... by doing away with our nukes *-) ............

Why buy aircraft you don't need when thay can quickly be obtained if the need arises. To me it makes sense, well as much as aircract carriers ever make sense for the UK defence in today's world, to have the capacity - unless you would rather carry spare aircraft on a container ship - and that did not end well last time.

According to Wiki -

The contract for the vessels (two aircraft carriers) was announced on 25 July 2007, by the then (Labour) Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne, ending several years of delay over cost issues and British naval shipbuilding restructuring. The contracts were signed one year later on 3 July 2008.

Firing off a nuclear bomb murdering thousands of innocent civilians and children doesn't take guts, just insanity. It's worth remembering how quickly and easily it can all go horribly wrong......which it came very close to doing had it not been for the actions of this man.
