Las Vegas mass murder

Surprised not to see a thread on this.....(maybe i shouldn't be?) :-(

'At least' 58 now reported dead and over 500 injured after a man opened fire from the 32nd floor of an Hotel on a crowd attending a music festival in Las Vegas. After police eventually stormed the Hotel room, they found 19 guns some of which were automatic military weapons.

The man is 64 year old Stephen Paddock a retired accountant and professional gambler so I expect this thread will slip very quickly into obscurity.

So who do you want to blame? :-| ......

1. The nutter?

2. The people who sell the guns?

3. The people who make the bullets?

hi,

I agree, just heard on the news that the man had an absolute arsenal of weapons and ammunition. Wonder what Donald Duck--sorry Trump will say about this. Probably say peoples own fault for standing in the way of bullets.

cheers

derek

Ermm......"an act of pure evil". No mention of addressing gun control or banning automatic military weapons from private use. No re-writing of an archaic and hopelessly outdated 2nd amendment drawn up in the days of the Wild West.

However the NRA was the main financial backer for Trumps Presidential campaign, pouring $36.6 million into the fund. Naturally on his election Trump told the NRA, "‘You have a true friend in the White House" thanking them for their support.

I'm sure they must be so proud and pleased with themselves.

The latest mass slaughter is just another statistic in the history of gun deaths in America and the madness will continue until someone has the balls to take on the NRA, tear up that stupid Amendment, and bring in strict gun control laws.

Of course it's upset many because Paddock turned out to be 'the wrong colour' though that didn't stop batsh*t bonkers Alex Jones tweeting last night that Paddock was a Muslim convert! *-)

https://twitter.com/RealAlexJones/status/914869356122791936

Paddock will be deemed a 'mental psychopath' who was 'suffering an illness' and this mass murder will slip quickly and quietly away.

I would not expect the kind of gun controls we have in the UK to be the most efficacious in the US. I did feel rather vulnerable when touring California and Nevada in a hired RV more than a decade ago because we had no defence against the prospect of being held up at gunpoint by some rabid thief. So much so that the day before we were due to fly home with nowhere to pitch close to our departure airport in San Francisco I chose to drive all night with my family sleeping in their beds. That is why I remain a little conflicted about the current debate about gun controls in America. My fear about our vulnerability was very real. The conditions in th USA are not remotely like those we experience in the small island we inhabit. That said, access to the kind of weapons this nutjob had will need to be addressed. This is a question for Americans to resolve and one which we in the UK are not best placed to offer any relevant or informed advice.

I abhor violence, every innocent death is a tragedy, in fact most violent deaths are a travesty. I have served in the Army, I learned to fire all sorts of guns and was quite good at it, but I cannot imagine any situation in which I would want to own a gun. I do not think that any sort of ban on guns in the USA would make much difference, the good guys would give up their guns but the bad guys wouldn't. Isn't that what has happened in the UK? We banned virtually all firearms except shotguns a few years back and what is the result, our Olympic shooting team had to surrender their guns so we no longer win lots of gold medals, and there has been a dramatic increase in the level of gun crime.

Whatever the answer to this dreadful problem is, it is not going to be gun control, so we should search for ways of either convincing the bad guys that guns are not the way forward, or make sure that they are more afraid of the consequences than whatever troubles them at the moment.

It's interesting to see what Australia did after a man shot 35 dead and wounded 28.The US could learn a lesson there but they are stuck with a President who is a puppet of the NRA.

Reports are now saying Paddock had possibly converted his semi-automatic to full automatic. Easily done for a few dollars.

Strange how Islamic mass murder that happens all too often and is met with candles , hymns and hashtags yet American mass murder that happens once in a while is met with hysteria and hissy fits ... Remember not all American gun owners are mass murderers are they now.

Are you for real??

Mass shootings in America are where at least four people are shot - and now an every day event. Las Vegas wasn't the only mass shooting on Sunday.....in Kansas two men and a woman were killed and a further two people injured the same day.

Since the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012, there have been at least 1,518 mass shootings, with at least 1,715 people killed and 6,089 wounded.

Yep it happens everyday! Ok not on this scale but the statistics are truly bonkers. 30000+ deaths by fire arms in America every year but people are still allowed to buy automatic weapons yet Trump makes a big hooha about banning Muslims who apart from 911 nearly two decades ago have been pretty much no threat on American soil.

I dunno why they just can't take a look at themselves and realise how stupid they are. I worked there on and off in the 90s in Arizona. I remember one God Botherer coming to a training course from Idaho or some Middle America sh1t hole and he carried a bible everywhere with him and a flipping Glock! (In the office!).

There is no chance of things changing now with Trump in power but at least with him in charge we are only the second most embarrassing country to be from in the world

It's worth remembering Trump also blocked the rule drawn up by Obama to stop people with mental health problems from buying guns.Trump gave the green light for every mental person in the US to have weapons proving not all the lunatics are in the asylum......one is now in the White House as President.

So sad folks.....it's so sad.

As if that wasn't bad enough, the vile (appropriate anagram of evil) NRA are now backing bills easing firearm regulation including making it easier to purchase silencers!! Honestly you couldn't make this sh*t up if you tried.....they are seriously warped in the head!

So in a few months time there will be another massacre.....but nobody will even know where the shots are coming from because the NRA will have them silenced. Brilliant eh?

So sad folks......it's so sad.

Politicians look for quick fix solutions people can perceive the benefit of before the next election

But there are no quick fix solutions here - its gone beyond the point of no return, at least in the immediate future..

Because (at a wild guess because thats all there is) America has something like 200 million guns with equally huge stockpiles of ammunition in circulation.

So if you ban them, the good guys will hand in their guns and the bad guys won't :-(

Totally agree ... The hissy fit hysteria by some regarding guns on here is laughable ... The weapon needs someone to pull the trigger ... The gun used by Paddock was illegal I believe ? ... More Americans are killed by cars each year than guns 32500 in 2014 are we going to call for banning car ownership because of some car owners

Guns were invented for the purpose of killing.

Cars weren't.

I would imagine most Americans buy guns for protection not to set out killing anyone ... The Good Lord didn't create man to murder but he does

No........all were legal semi automatic. As shown from links posted before which you obviously couldn't be bothered to look at, they had been modified using 'bump stocks' which enable them to fire as fully automatic.

A 'bump stock' can be bought for as little as $99......a fraction of the price of the weapon. But the same rapid fire action can be achieved by using a rubber band which proves where the real problem is (apart from batsh*t crazy interpretation of their precious 2nd amendment) and that is SEMI-automatics being perfectly legal to buy.

A semi-automatic can be turned into a rapid fire fully automatic (illegal to buy) in seconds and you don't need to know much about weapons to know how to do it.

Oh and i fixed your singular to plural as Paddock didn't just use "a gun". Police recovered 23 GUNS from Paddocks hotel room and 19 GUNS at his home along with thousands of rounds of ammunition. You are following the well trodden NRA line of being dismissive over this Antony clutching desperately at all the usual straws. I find it quite shameful. Comparing cars to guns is completely ludicrous and a typical NRA strawman.

Last night you made a sneering remark regards "Islamic mass murder are met with candles, hymns and hashtags". There have actually been many and not just in Las Vegas. But you don't want to see or hear that because you're bitterly disappointed Paddock turned out to be an all American white guy and not a group of bearded brown skin folk.
