Bulletguy Posted September 20, 2017 Share Posted September 20, 2017 22 year old Sophie Pointon was sentenced to 16 months in prison for perjury after making false rape allegations against a Muslim taxi driver. Pointon who was described as "extremely drunk" when she got in the taxi, threw a £10 note soaked in kebab oil at the driver who refused to accept it. Pointon then got out of the car shouting abuse at the driver and opening all the doors. She reported the "assault" to police who later arrested the driver and he spent six hours in police custody. The driver had his operators licence taken away for one month and shunned by friends and members of his community. Pointon's lies were only uncovered due to the drivers GPRS which recorded the conversation between him and his base operator, plus showed the taxi had not been in location claimed by Pointon. When challenged she asked to retract her statement. Amazingly Pointon was studying Criminology. There is a table within it which may provide the clue as to why The Dean of Reading was given a sentence of 9 months imprisonment. In addition the wiki article mentions what appears to have been long regarded as the definition of indecent i.e. "Whether or not a photograph or pseudo-photograph is indecent is a question of fact, and as a question of fact it is something for a jury or magistrate to decide. The jury should apply the standard of decency which ordinary right-thinking members of the public would set - the "recognised standards of propriety" as R v Stamford [1972] puts it. To my mind even a pseudo image of a child in a sexual context offends current day standards of propriety. The fact that no child may have been harmed in it's production may rightly determine the appropriate sentence. I would put the prevention of the sexual exploitation of children above any hope that people interested in such stuff might be less likely to engage in sexual offences against real children.
