BUT ON THE OTHER HAND ... ... we also "EASE UP" (well, some people do) and (in my case at least) "PUT OUR FOOT (or even the Hammer) DOWN," so "slow up" would fit. HOWEVER you still wouldn't say "speed down," so on balance I'll go for "slow down," although some of those who know me would say it's a foreign concept to me anyway.
