Barryd999 Posted November 20, 2018 Share Posted November 20, 2018 Myself and a few others complained to IPSO back in October about the blatant lies told in the Express regarding the story of the Swiss Border where it showed a dead end airport road and made out it was an example of their frictionless border. Blatant lies. Well its been upheld and I just received the following email from them. Better be on the front page as well as their crappy website and I want the Journo responsible locking up in The Tower. (lol) [Dear Mr Rock God (Name withheld) I write further to your complaint to IPSO that an article headlined "What boarder Problem? MP tweets photo of Swiss border with just ONE sign" and published by Express.co.uk on 22 October 2018 breached Clause 1 (Accuracy) of the Editors' Code of Practise. I write to confirm that after investigating the matter we are upholding your complaint. Consequently Express.co.uk has deleted the article and the website will publish the following Correction. DRAFT Correction – What border problems? MP tweets photo of Swiss border – (date of publication On 22 October we published an article headlined “What border problems? MP tweets photo of Swiss border with just ONE sign.” The article focused on a Tweet posted by Conservative MP Chris Philp. His post read “This is what EU Customs Union border can look like – Flughafenstrasse in Basel on Swiss (not in CU) French (in CU) border... There are technical solutions to ensuring no hard border NI/RoI.” The post contained an image of a road which showed a sign but no hard board, check-point or security. Based upon this Tweet our article then said ‘This is just like how the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland border can be under the Prime Minister’s chequers plan but the EU want a “hard” border if Northern Ireland leaves the customs union.’ In fact the picture which Mr Philp Tweeted is not a road which is a border crossing. Traffic crossing between Switzerland and France passes through official boarder points and is subject to checks. It should also be highlighted both countries are members of the Schengen area which means whilst goods are checked at border points people are not. It was therefore incorrect to state 'This is just like how the Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland border can be...'. We are happy to set the record straight. They have been held to account and forced to publish a correction and Chris Philips has been discredited all over social media yet oddly still refuses to acknowledge his blunder (or blatant lie). Declaring goods is not rocket science Barry ;-) .........Even I've managed it as an exporter :D ......... Plus I've even been held up at our borders for hours on end on numerous occasions *-) ............ So I'll just take any EU hissy fits in my stride >:-) ........ I suspect not but you should have. Complete nightmare and full of potential issues that could cause a hold up and the biggest issue is that of errors in the paperwork. Now magnify that by the four million trucks that come into Dover or through the tunnel each year. Of course you can improve on systems and tighten up on correct paper work but the amount of stuff that comes through our ports from Europe is huge! Much greater than it was forty plus years ago.
