Postage from China

interesting article in the FT about how we subsidise postage from China because its classed as a developing nation.

So its cheaper to post small ekectrical items to London from Shenzen (China) than it is to post them from Sheffield.

The Government helps them further by not charging them 20% VAT.

No wonder Maplins have gone bust.

But why have the Tories allowed this to happen?

No - Maplins did OK under Labour because the problem was far smaller then.

I really don't like defending Tory Bliar.

Or 'Blatcher' as he is called because his policies were so similar to Thatcher.

(of the two I would prefer Thatcher because she was more honest about it)

But the fact is these really were developing nations at that time.

As I said, the problem of unfair subsidised competition was far smaller - Maplins were still doing well.

And foreign aid to them has increased much further under the Tories - whilst the Tories are cutting benefits to the homeless in England

You rightly point out some of Bliar's failings - but instead of making tghem better the Tories have made them far worse.

Why would they rather send aid abroad than to the homeless in their own back yard?

Is it because they like going abroad being treated like Royalty because they are dishing out our money?

Are you getting this from the Daily Mail or making it up yourself?

The document you quoted does not say that because IT ISN'T TRUE

In fact it was put into law to increase oversas aid to 0.7% of GDP in 2015 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2015/12/pdfs/ukpga_20150012_en.pdf - long after Labour left office.

So why are you blaming Labour for it?

The Tories put it into law which stopped it growing year on year as it did under Labour ;-) .........

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39658907

BTW will Jeremy Corbyn reduce our overseas aid budget?????? >:-) ...........

"Labour said it would “continue to honour” the commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of gross national income on aid"

https://www.civilsociety.co.uk/news/labour-party-outlines-plan-to-redesign-uk-s-approach-international-aid.html

So that's a NO then (lol) (lol) (lol) ...........

Some more info on who set the 0.7% target ;-) ..........

"The target grew out of an earlier suggestion to transfer 1% of donor countries’ income to developing

countries. According to Indian economist Jagdish Bhagwati, this “was the idea of Sir Arthur Lewis,

the economist who was adviser to Hugh Gaitskell, leader of the British **LABOUR** Party, who wanted a

target for his political platform in the 1950s.”

Actually its an impossible question - at least for a politician who is honest enough not to make pre-election promises they can't keep.

Who knows what state the country will be in when the Tories have spent all our money and credit paying bribes to buy votes from the likes of the DUP >:-)
