Ralph
This question has puzzled me for ages and it came back to me again when reading a post from Norma "Flying with the Russian Dog" Why did an Italian motorhome manufacturer name themselves after a dead dog? Guest caraprof
This is an easy one. Several hours after being launched into space Laika the dog died from stress and over-heating. As this was happening to a lot of the firm's motorhomes they decided to change the name to Laika. However, another theory is that, when the first one came off the production lines, the man who'd bankrolled the operation is credited with exclaiming (you have to pronounce this in an Italian accent): "Oh my God, I like a da motorhome." They may be excellent motorhomes but my association with the name is pretty much what you describe :'(
