Autocruise Rhythm compact

Welcome to the Out & About Live forums, Barry.

My understanding is that the Autocruise Rhythm Compact model began to be marketed in 2012.

It would normally be built on a Peugeot Boxer 333 base but (as is mentioned in this 2012 review)

a Fiat Ducato could be used instead when automatic transmission was specified.

The review also answers your question about the gearbox. If a Rhythm Compact is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, it will have a 110bhp motor: if it has a 6-speed manual gearbox, it will have a 130bhp motor.

This June 2014 RAC review also mentions that the lowest ouput motor was married to a 5-speed transmission.

From 2012 to mid-2014 a Boxer or Ducato ‘X250’ base would have been used (upper photo below) and from mid-2014 onwards a Boxer or Ducato ‘X290’ base (lower photo below). As you’ll see, it is quite easy to know which is which from the shape of the headlamps. I think all X290-based Rhythm models with a manual gearbox would have a 6-speed transmission, irrespective of the power output of the vehicle’s motor.

How much adding an awning will cost will depend on the specification of the awning itself (whether it is just a simple manually-operated type, an electrically-operated type, has side panels, etc.) plus the fitting charge. Some sample prices are given here

A GOOGLE-search for motorhome awning installers near where you live should be helpful.

If you want advice relating to the Peugeot Boxer element of your motorhome, it would be useful to know whether the Boxer is an ‘X250’ type (upper photo in my posting above) or the later ‘X290’ type (lower photo) and the year in which the motorhome was built.

Knowing such things might be helpful as there were negative aspects of X250 models (like a tendency for rainwater to enter the engine compartment) that were addressed for X290 models (though not necessarily cured).

The following link lists forum discussions containing the word “Rhythm” - some of the Motorhome Matters and Hints & Tips entries may be relevant and of interest to you.

Thanks for that information, Barry - this other magazine review may be of interest.

Keep an eye on the rainwater issue I mentioned above, and also on the large plastic-bodied fuel-filter that can leak. Assuming that there’s a spare-wheel under the floor, it would be worth confirming that you have the necessary tools for a wheel-change and that the spare-wheel can be lowered OK. Even if you won’t be changing a wheel yourself, discovering that the lowering mechanism is seized up in an emergency is something to be avoided.

Hopefully, if you do have questions about your Rhythm, they won’t relate to problems with it.
