Maudie57
I wonder if anyone can help. We have damaged (cracked) our 40mm plastic waste pipe at the point it comes out of the gate valve. Is this easily repaired at home? Or will it have to go to a motorhome repairer. We are fairly expert DIY'ers. Thanks
Derek Uzzell
Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Maud (and thanks for your very useful advice about the Chausson water-tank filler cap). I’ve attached an image taken from a French Chausson manual that I think shows the drain-valve + plastic extension-pipe arrangement used on your motorhome. A Chausson dealer would quite likely recommend that the damaged part be replaced, but a DIY ‘bodge’ that ought to be long-term effective would be to liberally wrap the join between the valve’s outlet and the extension-pipe with tape. You might try this stuff https://www.everbuild.co.uk/product/silweld/ It’s readily available on-line and Screwfix offer something similar https://www.screwfix.com/p/self-amalgamating-rubber-tape-black-25mm-x-3m/2115v 40mm is a common diameter got plumbing plastic pipework, so - unless Chausson has used unusual fittings - you might be able to obtain new parts. https://tinyurl.com/y423ayz3
Maudie57
Thanks for the diagram, and the advice Will have a look at it again. Because it's so close to the ground it is a nuisance to get to. The diagram indicates that the lower section of the plate has an inbuilt small section of pipe, which is solvent welded to the rest. However from an initial inspection of ours it looked slightly different. Could just be us not being able to get a proper look at it. Either way tape should do it. charleydog
the same thing happened to is after an object struck our waste pipe on the road breaking it off . I cut the pipe off at where it enters the tank and found that a standard waste pipe fits snugly inside the original as it enters the tank.A coating of clear sealant round the joint did the trick. :-D
Derek Uzzell
Has your Chausson 630 got the same gate-valve arrangement as Maud’s 728EB? My Rapido has a plastic pipe that connects directly to a corner of the waste-water tank and has a drain-valve where the pipe emerges beneath the motorhome’s side-skirt. If the Rapido’s pipe were broken off at its tank end your method would be a straightforward fix, but I’m not sure if the same thing could be done if the tank drained through a gate-valve. charleydog
yes it's the same gate valve common to all chausson's don't know about the rapido
charleydog
just don't push the new pipe in too far so it clashes with the gate valve
