EBL100 turn 230 vac ...on and off..

Working on a motorhome equipped with EBL100

Today I did some test on my many 12 vdc modifications.

All was working fine as expected.

The user display was working fine.

12 volts shut on and off when switch operated.... as it should.

When i plugged the 230 vac cable to the motorhome, a relay inside the EBL started to TIKK TAKK.

I could see the 230 vac symbol on the user display repeatedly going on and off, on and off.....

Did not test the 230 vac hookup earlier;

(Did not test any of the EBL functions at all before I started my project).

I have only done a few modifications on the 12 volts leisure system.

Very early I found that the 20 A fuse at the 12 vdc side of the internal EBL was blown with melted plastic.

Since I am not going to use the internal charger anymore,

I did remove the remains of the fuse... and did not think much about it.

I was hoping that I could use the "starter battery charging relay" as before;

(giving a 2 A max charge for the starter battery from my new CTek setup).

Is this the relay creating the TIKK TAKK ?

I do belive this has been like this for a while.

I am starting to belive that the internal 230 vac stage is burned.. bad.

There is no smell, but still....

At this time the lesisure battery voltage is 13,3 volts

The starter battery is disconnected from the EBL;

(Instead I am charging leisure batteries via a new DC/DC charger directly)

Could this cause my issues?

Is the EBL be ready for a change?

Appreciate any hints & tips on this

Without knowing what type of van you have I cannot help.

I do know that when the hookup lead is used, the engine battery is also charged. You seem to have modified the 12 volt system, so that is where I would look first.

You should be able to find a wiring diagram online for the EBL which may help.

My modification I have done before.. on another motorhome.

And I have already tested this. Working as it should.

I already have the diagrams for the EBL.

The EBL alone make the Tik Tak Tik Tak sound.. on the floor of my kitchen....nothing else connected.

I do suspect there is a internal PSU overload.....

:-D

Sounds like the mains charger in the EBL is working fine, but the charge can't 'get out to the battery' because of the missing melted fuse?

What normally happens is the charger starts up detects there is no connection to the battery because of the missing fuse, so shuts down. Tries again, then shutsdown, etc.

Try replacing the 20a 'Internes Lademodul' fuse?

Or pull the mains 230v Kettle lead to turn off the EBL charger, as you seem to have replaced it anyway?.

TNX for the tip Allan.

Already tested and all ok.

Today I learned another lesson :-)

What I did was;

Earlier today I removed the 50A fuse on the lead from start battery to the EBL.

And I did not replace the blown 20 A fuse.

Tonight I reinserted both fuses and all ok.

Another question if you got time;

I had a 2014 Hymer with a EBL29.

I did remove the 20 A fuse and I used an external charger.

The EBL accepted this... nothing scary did happen (as I could see).

Is the 29 and the 100 different in this way?

Without a thorough check, I honestly can't answer, however the charger PCB's have changed a lot since the first EBL 100's which had a very different 16amp board.

The EBL 29 has one of the later spec 18amp units.

If you used an external charger and disabled the internal PCB, I would have expected there to be issues?

Did you not lose charging of the Starter battery?
