gmcclin Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Can any of you guys help. My three way fridge is no longer working on 12v. It is operating on mains and gas with no issues. The switch at the fridge illuminates when you turn it on for 12v so I assume it is getting power to fridge OK. That I presume would rule out a blown fuse. Any ideas what the problem could be. Yea it's when engines running and It's switched to 12v the switch illuminates to signify 12v is operating. It's an Electrolux (Dometic) fridge and the base vehicle is a Fiat Ducato. Alanb Posted July 23, 2016 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Please note that there are two separate 12V supplies to the fridge. One for the control circuitry, which from the symptoms described, is obviously OK. The second 12V supply is for the 12V heating element. It is this second supply that is controlled by the alternator D+ signal, or possibly a voltage sensitive relay. The fact that the 12V indicator light illuminates is no proof that this heating power will be supplied when the engine is started. You need to confirm that this heating supply becomes available when the engine is started. There may be a relay under the bonnet, annd a fuse of at least 15A rating. sshortcircuit Posted July 24, 2016 Share Posted July 24, 2016 In the centre of the engine bay you should find a large black plastic cover held on by four nuts. Remove cover and you should find two relays and a small fuse block with 3/4 fuses. One of these fuses is the feed for the fridge heater element. Check and please feedback how you get on. Given the age of the vehicle, it’s a reasonable bet that the fridge’s 12V heating element has failed. As has been said, the presence of 12V power at the rear of the fridge needs to be confirmed. gmacz Posted July 25, 2016 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Under the bonnet, look for a wire coming from the alternator, sometime grey. Fuse on this wire rusts and then there is no contact.
