I came across this website by accident

https://www.motorhomingfrance.co.uk/

and thought it might be of interest to forum members who are becoming UK lockdown stir-crazy.

For example, there’s an “Aires Info” page

https://www.motorhomingfrance.co.uk/aires-info

that mentions the Aire Park Reservation scheme that I wasn’t aware of.

It’s a good little site and you can sign up for a monthly newsletter. Always good to have someone knowledgable on the ground.

The Aire park reservation scheme is, if I read the situation right, the manufacturers of the Aire service points which we are so familiar with, getting on the band wagon that campingcarpark started. I first came across their barriers and paypoints at St Pierre Quiberon in 2018. The subtle difference in their system seems to be that you get a receipt plus a ticket to display on your windscreen or dashboard, but more importantly you get a piece of paper with a QR code on it which allows entry and exit at will during your stay. WiFi is included in the price, although I found it problematic. They seemed to be a bit greedy in that whilst you had barrier protected parking, grey water and black disposal, you had to pay extra for water. The paypoint notice was in French only although the machine had language selecting options.

Thats run by Camping Carparks they had 2 levels of membership one allows you to check if there's any spaces available on line the other allows you book it but that has yearly subscription. You can get a membership card by post to UK which allows access to their sites when you leave you use that card to pay its easily loaded online as an when required. I'd suggest getting the card by post I've seen French struggling to get one out of the machine at the entrances

I’ve been a member of the Camping-Car Park scheme for several years and knew that the ‘services’ equipment installed on many motorhome aires in France came from the AireServices company. What I was not aware of was that - for some of the latter sites - it was possible to reserve emplacements.

The information on the 2nd link in my original posting makes it (pretty) clear that Camping Car Park aires and Aire Park Reservation aires are owned/operated by different companies, with the former based in Pornic and the latter in Concarneau.

In May 2020 Camping-Car Magazine interviewed Amand Riou, founder of AiresServices, who said (GOOGLE-translated)

We set up and manage motorhome areas in France and in Europe. We have an Aire Park network of more than 800 motorhome areas in France and we are also present in several European countries, notably in Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Portugal ... as well as in Morocco. We have equipped a private area in Brittany, the Lann Floren area, which was voted Aire of the Year 2019 by the readers of Camping-Car Magazine. 4 years ago, we also equipped the motorhome aire at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

(The interview was primarily about the Aire Park newtwork being open during the general French COVID-19 confinement phase that was then in force.)
