Hi Everyone

I have spend a lovely long weekend near St Andrews and as a surprise travelled across to Lock Lomond but he in doors not happy.

It is going to pee down tomorrow (Tues) so can travel.

Want to leave here and travel to the below.......

Coastal location, suitable for coastal walking and pushbiking but also ideal for sitting and doing nowt if required, don't mind travelling or 2 or 3 hours if its worth it.

Better half not liking here, not suitable for biking and not overlooking lake or coast area.

Any help much appreciated :-)

So many options... I would swing down towards Tarbert on the Mull of K and then either head south by the back road to the tip aiming for Machrihanish or head north by the coast road, then head up towards Oban, and over the Connel Bridge towards Ft bill. Coastal Cycle track between Oban and Ft Bill. Mountain biking options around too if that's what you are looking for.

PS they are Lochs!!

Loch Lomond is nearly as bad as England for motorhomes now, because its so nice and so busy being close to population centres. Parking meters, Residents Only permits etc. (In Luss the most interesting and popular village, but there is at least a decent P&D park)

You'll find motorhoming easier practically anywhere else in Scotland :-D

Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness in particular have lovely botanic gardens (like most things in Scotland free and free parking) A far cry from the rip off at Kew. Not wanting to get political but English Government spending per person is far higher in Scotland, to buy off the nationalist vote and maintain Boris Johnson's Empire at English taxpayer's expense. So most things are cheaper in Scotland. Which is factual and relevant to motorhoming.

We came home from west Scotland earlier this month, had a great time. But we were finding it limiting as so many sites shut. Veletron had a few good suggestions, there was a site open at Tarbert, and just outside Oban Glen Sonas (check Camping and Caravan Club website) was a little gem.

there was a site open at Tarbert, .

Which one?

(That name means a strip of land between 2 lochs, so there are quite a lot of them in Scotland)

The clue is in Veletron's reply.

And yes, if you want cycling, as she said, Fort William good, both for mountain trails at bottom of the Ben, and along the canal/lochs all the way to Inverness.

Thanks for all the advice. Had a lovely few days around Oban with a distillery visit as well. Wild camping one night and campsite the next. Now heading south, possibly Ayr before heading across the A66 homeward bound on Saturday. Aye is not set in concrete so any other suggestions welcome. Just want one more day in Bonny Scotland before heading back ??

Actually stayed at North Ledaig Campsite. Mainly shut but have about 8 spaces still open, hard standing with electric and shower block open.
