Stolen Bailey motorhome

Please keep an eye out for a stolen Bailey Approach Autograph 765 registration MX15 CSF.

Not many distinguishing features, just a 4 bike carrier on the rear wall and a Gasit filler in the gas locker door.

This was stolen whilst in the care of Bailey of Bristol - it had been returned to factory for work.

Bailey's driver took it their upholstery supplier to collect new upholstery and left it outside with the keys in the ignition.

If the MH was in the hands and care of the manufacturer at the time then their 'insurance' will cover the loss.

I hope that Steve will get some good news soon as whether the vehicle has been found or what remedial action the manufacturer is taking - I wish him well.

keys in the ignition.

Ouch. I think that means its not insured :-(

I would have thought that Bailey are liable, one way or the other, as it was negligence on the part of their driver to leave it with the keys in! Whether their insurance would cover that I don't know but they clearly are liable in my view.

I believe Steve’s posting about a stolen Bailey motorhome does not relate to his own vehicle.

This is a plea from the MH owner...

1 question that's being overlooked !!! Why was he using your Motorhome to collect the upholstery. Were they being fitted or merely using your MH as a van!!!

That's a good point which i imagine the owner has asked Baileys. Maybe Stuart can throw more light on it? Upholstery is sub-contracted out so if collecting the finished products......why hadn't a works van been used to collect it? Even the front seats would be removed if they were being upholstered as well.....there is no reason for a m/h to be there.

Under 2 miles south of Bailey’s Bristol factory is the Caravan & Boat Seat Cover Centre (CBSCC) that specialises in upholstery for leisure-vehicles.

http://www.cbscc.co.uk/

I’m not psychic, but it seems quite likely - perhaps even probable - that a motorhome taken to Bailey’s factory for under-warranty attention that (presumably) involved replacement of some of its upholstery would (assuming that CBSCC is Bailey’s upholstery supplier of course) normally be driven the short distance between Bailey’s factory and the CBSCC.

Apologies if I gave the impression that this was my van. It belongs to a member of the Facebook Bailey owners group who had decided that due to the lack of help he was receiving from Bailey the time had come to publicise the theft more widely.

Regarding the upholstery question, it has now been clarified that it was a collection from Bailey's own upholstery store rather than the supplier. It's not known whether this store is on the main production site, at the parts department on the other side of Bristol, or indeed elsewhere. If it were at the factory site then there are entry and exit barriers controlled by a security guard and I suppose that within this secure environment leaving keys in a vehicle may be less remarkable than it first seemed, although of course still unexcusable when the vehicle is someone else's property.

Other than that there is sadly no progress to report either regarding locating the van or concerning any progress in getting recompense from Bailey, but I'll report back with any future news.

Unfortunately a lot of the misdemeanours that occur in the Motorhome world and that are publicised on this forum relate to a third party and almost never from the actual victim.

Which ... always leads to a suspect source from which its not easy to determine the facts.

This is not to criticise this particular event but why do we not hear from the owner- victim.

If the loss were mine I would be raising hell to all I could think of until every person in the land was aware of it.

The more this situation goes on there are more puzzles occurring. All from different sources, which, suggests there may be errors mixed in with part truths. Will we ever know the facts?

In my book a theft is a theft regardless of where, when and why.

I can understand that for anyone involved in a dispute with a manufacturer it's hard to judge when 'going public' is likely to be to your advantage. Initially you must feel that by keeping quiet and discussing the issue only with the manufacturer you might get a better end result, but the as fustration builds you begin to feel that publicity may help your cause, even if you're not quite ready to yourself start shouting. This was the situation that this owner was in and he asked others with forum accounts elsewhere to spread the word, although I now see that he's become frustrated enough to get on the web himself.

I recall several disputes with manufacturers being chronicled on here and elsewhere where we were promised a full report on the eventual outcome but that report never materialised. I suspect that the final deal offered by the manufacturer often includes a gagging clause, hence so many of these dispute threads just peter out and we're none the wiser.

I guess it's just important that the wronged party gets the best final deal and that we offer our help where requested.

At this precise moment the Out&AboutLive forums apparently have 24064 registered users, a registered user being someone who can (in principle) log on to the forums and make postings.

I’m not aware if it’s possible to tell how many unregistered ‘guests’ there might be who are viewing O&AL forum discussions but cannot actively participate in them, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than 50 registered users logged on at any one time.

So, in terms of ‘popularity’ based on the number of active participants, these forums will be are fairly low in the pecking order - certainly a lot lower down than the MHFacts and MHFun forums, but probably higher up than the Practical Motorhome forum.

Its not a dispute Its THEFT !

Someone has dishonestly taken possession of another's property.

Its a matter of LAW !

The taking of the motorhome is THEFT.

The DISPUTE is about what further role Bailey should play in the matter.

They are quite happy to restrict themselves to playing by the LAW and have provided the crime reference number and the contact telephone number of their insurer and bowed out (As have I now unless there is any further information to publish).
