do you carry a torch

Having just returned from a weekend rally, where our van electrics decided to expire, we were very glad that we had remembered to check the torch batteries and replace them before leaving home.

investigation on arriving home, discovered that our habitation battery had decided to retire permanently, leaving us in the dark . The torches came to the rescue, and the separate gas igniter enabled us to light the gas to boil a kettle.

I have replaced the habitation battery, and the van electrics are functional once again.

on hookup, the charger is functional, as is the output from solar panel, so I guess the old battery is "OUT OF WARRANTY", it is over 4 years old, !so cant really complain.

thank goodnes fot the torches.

Doesn't it bring it home to you just how vital the habitation area Battery is to a pleasant break away when it expires?

Only when it goes do you realise it is the Heart of the Motorhome Electrical systems and every Appliance you rely on. On a late model Motorhome you even lose the Fridge running from gas.

Q. Do you carry a torch?

A. Yes. 6 actually! They all have different purposes.

And we have spare batteries for most of them and I check battery condition and expiry dates regularly.

Keith.

6 8-) .......I don't wish to pry ;-) .........But why? :D .......

OK, 2 flood beam LED torches for walking across fields, campsites, etc. (1 each for OH and myself)

2 small LED torches located in different locations in MH in case of emergency

1 Original fitment MB hazard warning/breakdown torch

1 Portable locker light//torch in under bed locker

And I forgot the headtorch in the 'emergency' box!

Two head band type for illuminating ones way on back from the pub or ones way on the site after dark.......not too strong a beam so as not to invade other campers after dark activities....oooerr Mrs.... :-)

and an eyeball searing spotlight thing for whenever the circumstances require it.

As for checking battery expiry dates....I do it the easier way.  Use the torch/es until the light dims and then replace them...........simples.

Is that windup as in "I've got the windup" or wind up as in "I think I need to wind up somebody" Now let me guess.

I love technology and the humble torch ( we have three in our tracker)has certainly benefited from LED. My wife requested a light in the undersink cupboard last week. A trip to the $2 shop ( pound shop in your speak) resulted in the purchase of three very effective and cheap LED lights. One for the cupboard and two for "just in case" Always carry spare batteries. So short answer yes I carry torches.

I "met" you more then once, I seem to remember stepping over you at least twice! Which is not easy considering your size, almost as big as your hangover. That's hangover in the sense of alcohol abuse, not waistline hangover, you understand.

Yes -

Been plunged into complete blackness more than once when the electrics trip - 10 amp in the van but 16amp on a hook-up, - also our leisure battery dropped a cell and we finished up in blackness surprisingly quickly. Soon learn that they are an essential piece of kit. LED's do it for me, bright, small and the batteries last for ages.

We have a couple of torches in positions where I an reach them in the pitch blackness without falling over anything, one is in an "emergency box with our fire extinguisher, first aid kit, hi viz jacket, few basic tools, warning triangle etc. Very easily grabbed in case of trouble..

Can be useful for staggering back from the pub over a dark field, - or for changing gas bottles.

I also have a head torch, - not needed it much, used it more when we had a tent, putting it up in the dark without one was a nightmare, useful for night time toilet emptying or locating dropped objects, - the time I don't have it will be the day I really need it.

Geeco - 2017-10-17 6:07 AMRich, Shirley  Abicair used to play the zither. Were you aware she was from the land down under?
Thanks Gary, I did know about the lovely Shirley and you could even say I carried a torch for her many, many years ago!!It's not her fault she was foreign born and I forgave her for being an Aussie!!Might retract that forgiveness after the Ashes??
