Guest New to camping
I am looking to buy a tent for family holidays. Ideally to accomodate 6 in three seperate appartments. Also with kitchen space. What is the suggested models and type ie hoop etc. also is it better to have a fixed internal groundsheet or not - any advice will be appreciated
Guest Pete
Hi, It's all down to personal choice as we all have differing requirements and tastes. Sewn-in Groundsheets are becoming more and more common, mainly due to the weather in this country :-), as they keep out the draughts and those annoying creepy crawlies. There's a vast range of Family tents but if your requirement is for 3 separate sleeping compartments then one option is a triple dome tent e.g Outwell Hartford XL, Campus Breckenridge Deluxe (2005 model), Vango Diablo 900, the list can go on. All have 3 bedrooms and large living areas + porches that can be used as a kitchen area. The ones I've mentioned above are only a starting point and there are many more makes and shapes on the market but I've listed their websites so as you can have a look at some of the varieties... Outwell.. http://www.frontstairs.dk/oaseoutdoorsfrontend/tents.aspx?b=Outwell&bid=2&lid=1&l=en-GB Campus.. www.campusoutdoor.co.uk/ Vango.. http://www.amg-outdoor.co.uk/vango/index.html You really need have a look at some camping shops with tent displays so as you can walk around them looking at size and practicality to meet your needs. Hope this helps Pete.
Guest Arthur Dent
If you're new to camping you may want to purchase something at the cheaper end of the market first. For instance, Royal do decent 6-berth tents for around £300. http://www.jacksons-camping.co.uk/royal/ We had a ROyal TOulouse 6 and while it wasn't the strongest, or greatest tent in the world, it gave us an idea of what we wanted from camping, and we may upgrade in a year or two to something much better, like a Robens http://www.frontstairs.dk/oaseoutdoorsfrontend/Tents.aspx?b=Robens&bid=1&lid=1&l=en-GB
