The tow bar company has said that the Witter towbar for the above may need a VW rear bumper modification to hide the tow bar (Detachable swan neck)

Has anyone had a towbar fitted to the Golf and what mods were needed to the bumper ?

Just wondering if the rear of the Golf is liveable with, or does need a cosmetic makeover to hide the mechanics.

I had a Westfalia detatchable tow-bar fitted. They replaced the black plastic valance with another which has a removable panel, and gave me the old one to keep in the loft. It looks so neat that 99% of people would never notice it.

Many thanks for the reply, I will have to visit VW and see what the panel is going to cost, or if I can get away without.

Thank you for this interesting post. It is obvious you put a great amount of time and effort into your research.
Agree with all of the above... well except maybe number one.
