Auction time

Busy weekend at https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/ with over 600 lots going under the hammer on Friday and Saturday.

Some interesting lots passed through one of which was this 02 registered Bentley Arnage with 17000 miles on the clock. The guy who owned it had barely driven it and it had spent most of it's time sitting in the garage. He since passed away and his widow asked Mathewsons to auction it. It attracted a lot of attention and sold for £32k.

After viewing Mathewsons auction I ended up in Monaco at Bonhams auction! For anyone interested the cars begin at the 40 min mark....worth a watch for the auctioneer alone who gets quite animated and his ability to flow seamlessly from English into French then Dutch is pretty amazing!

If you had told me I would have attended the auction.

For a good "German car" I could have budgeted up to £ 50K.

Moreover, having been twenty years old, from this year it would have been registered in the register of historic cars, therefore almost without ownership tax.

Mathewsons concentrates mainly on old collectables with the occasional 'modern' car going through. A mint condition 535 with full service history sold at a previous auction.

Ford Cosworths and Mini Coopers go for silly money.....even standard Minis in good nick are increasing in price.

If you enjoy car auctions as I do, this is another good one; https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/

Their next classic car auction is June 11th & 12th and they livestream on YouTube. Well worth book marking that to watch! :-D

At Bonhams in the US my friend bought a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow (about 1970) and a BMW 635CSL (about 1975).

Only a Lotus Elise could interest me on the English market.

Obviously Racing Green or Blue Scotland and right hand drive.

This guy bought a 1970 Shadow 1 as an impulse buy off ebay for just £4000! Not mint by any means but reasonable condition plus it had a new gearbox fitted.

He's driven it to the Arctic and back and since decided to keep it so had the bodywork sorted. Harry isn't short a few quid tho'....he recently had the gearbox from his Lambo Espada rebuilt and a complete engine and gearbox rebuild to his Lambo Countach (all on his YouTube channel if you want to take a look).

I always hankered after a Lotus 7 and this guys 1957 model is nice. Ivan Dutton is quite a legend in motorsport circles here in UK with a long history having raced and owned many Bugattis. Now 82 and still tinkering around with cars! Scroll to 18 minute 40 second mark to watch the old boy give it some beans!! B-)

Busy weekend at Mathewsons with some cracking cars going through. 150 lots yesterday......450 lots today.

A 1996 Escort RS Cosworth went for a mind blowing £62k. 8-)

1959 fully restored and rechromed Vauxhall Cresta realised £17k.

And a future classic which 33 years ago you could have picked up for 50 quid....a 1986 Trabbie which went for £3,100.

Another busy two day auction at Mathewsons with over 600 lots going through.

Two Tatras went for £9,100 and £7,200. Extremely rare. Both in sound condition but needing restoration. A very nice fully restored 1959 BMW Isetta bubble car went through at just £10k.

Minis are better than money in the bank and by Mini I mean the 'proper' Mini....not the BMW models. Ordinary Mini models are now fetching good money.

A 1982 Mini HL, one owner from new with just 3,296 miles on the clock went for £14,000

A 1989 Austin Mini 30 with 28,700 miles on the clock went for £12,750

Better investments than money in the Bank!

If you keep them long enough

When you see the commission Matthewson's charge . 8-) - to both buyer and seller . 8-) its going to take a while to cover that.

They're on a similar level to other car auctions John and its a business, not run for free.

Trading in cars is still better than banking money today......as long as you deal with the right kind of vehicles.
