Brexit poll shows voters swinging towards Remain

Bulletguy

Recommended Posts

Some 54% of people said they would stay in the EU if the 2016 referendum were held tomorrow – when those who refused to vote or answered “don’t know” were removed.

Good debate though typically Farage threw his toys out of his pram soon as he saw the poll result - forgetting his 'unfinished business' quote and call for a second referendum when he thought Remain would win. *-)

Like any polls the vote will swing according to the individuals perception of the fear factor and the answer you get will always depend very largely on when you ask and what specific question is asked.

The vote for Brexit was based on the fear of immigration and what the EU might become in years to come and the cost to the UK taxpayer.

The vote to remain is currently based on the fear of how EU retribution for the UK having the temerity to say 'no thanks' and taking our contributions away from the EU budget might impact adversely on each voter's lifestyle.

The real vote should be 'would you vote to remain or leave the EU if the economic future was the same in or out' thus removing project fear from the equation.

If I were working to support a home, a family and a mortgage and my perception, rightly or wrongly, was that my lifestyle was at risk by leaving the EU, then I would probably vote remain, not because I love the EU particularly but because of my own fear of leaving.

Spot on Brian. Naturally as one of the few Brextremists left he wouldn't have figured that....just as he hasn't understood the poll either which had he taken the trouble to listen, he'd have learnt how it was conducted. It's one of the largest polls done and there's a link to the company explaining the questions asked.

I just noticed in Bullet's original CH4 link right at the bottom there is an Excel spreadsheet download of all the data. Its quite comprehensive.

Just reading through just one question which is Question 11 proves without doubt that there is an appetite and a majority in favour of a vote on the final deal with an option to remain.

Q11. If the UK and the EU agree a deal on the terms of Brexit, would you support or oppose holding a referendum in which voters were asked to choose between:Accepting the deal or Remaining in the EU

Out of 12 regions in the UK only the "East" and "South West" would be narrowly against a second vote. Every other region of the country would vote in favour of a vote on the deal with an option to remain.

The objectors in all regions are older voters and the objection percentage increases the older they are with those over 75 55% against, 31% in favour (Rest are dont know). Other areas where the objectors are higher are the low qualified or Tory voters.

Without doubt though, this country is in favour of a vote on the final deal I would say so why are the government so dead against it? (at the moment)

I wondered when someone would finally find that! It's an embedded link but i knew it would only be noted by anyone who read the article or watched the clip. Krishnan Guru-Murthy mentions it in the vid clip and i pointed to it in the second post! ;-)

Quite clearly, in any future referendum, only people who are aged under sixty, and hold a degree obtained from a recognised college or university, should be allowed to vote.

Good idea. Well it seems fair seeing as nearly two million young voters have turned 18 since the referendum yet have had no say in the future out of the EU where they will be the ones left to deal with it. In the Scottish referendum 16 year old were allowed to vote on their future so if that had happened here you can double that number and it should have. Rich old motorhomers are not the ones that will be left to deal with the mess. I hope they feel proud of their actions as they while away the winters in Spain.

Ah so we shouldnt give them the vote in case they dont vote Tory. They are going to turn 18 at some point Rich. Whichever way you look at it unless there is a final vote on Brexit there are going to be several million adults paying into the system that are inheriting your mess that never even got a chance to vote on it. Brexit has dragged on way too long and is way too much of a mess as it is not to have a vote on the final outcome and those people deserve a chance to have their say. Or did Democracy end on June 23 2016?

On the contrary let's give 10 year olds the vote as they can't make a bigger balls up of running the country than the so called adults have.

It's not my mess, I only ever voted for a free market, not the self serving top heavy cash consuming monolith that is the EU.
