How hot should the water be when making "cuppa soup", as the plastic cup looks like it may disintegrate. !

boil the kettle let it stand a little while then make cuppa soup it will be fine vending machines hot water is just off boiling and those plastic cups do not melt same with drinks.

Cuppa soup makes a good alternative to gravy and if you use the asparagus, or milder tasting ones (without bits!) you can mix some cheese in and make a nice sauce for cauliflower.
