"Well, that was a stunner! - RemainAlliance beats the split Tory & Brexit Party votes in Brecon & Radnorshire.

This is also an area that voted 52% Leave in 2016... and is now in pro-EU Lib Dem hands. Amazing stuff.

There are several fascinating lessons from the Brecon & Radnorshire result:

1- Like with Peterborough, the Tory Party & Brexit Party again split the vote with each other, both losing out.

2- This will cause resentment of BP by the Tory Party... making it harder to work together.

3- Farage will point to this as the need for Tory-BP pacts, thus trying to ramp up his influence, causing more tensions in Tory Party.

4- This is humiliation for Johnson, whose “bounce” didn’t convince BP and couldn’t beat Lib Dems/ RemainAlliance

5- This all ramps up Johnson’s need for a GE... but makes that GE (with a spoiler Brexit Party) look highly risky. Catch-22

6- Labour vote dropped 70%! (And no - not to BP - as BP-Tory adds up to prev Tory total). RemainAlliance are strong tactical voters across all parties"

Jeeesaz! How do you spin that one? BP got just 10%. So in what was a Leave seat only 10% now want your no deal Brexit as the LibDems romp home with a spectacular victory in what was also a Tory seat.

It clearly shows that there is no mandate for a no deal Brexit or maybe no mandate for Brexit at all.

Still clinging to straws Barry *-) .........

Tory's 39% + BP 10% + UKIP .8% = 49.8% B-) .......

Lib Dems 43% + Labour 5% = 48% ;-) .........

So proof that no ones changed their minds on Brexit despite 3 years of Remoaner bitching.......

Plus it also proves that currently Boris needs Farage to help him win a landslide GE :D ........

So like I said ......an excellent by election result for us well hard Boris/Brexit Party fans >:-) ........

All eyes will be on the polls prior to Parliament reconvening methinks :-> ........

Are we on the same planet? The Tories are, under Boris Johnson, committed to leave, even with no deal.

The Brexit party is likewise, as is UKIP. Together these three parties took over 50% of the vote.

Any Tory who is opposed to leaving will have switched to LibDem, who by the way, only scraped through because Plaid and the Greens withdrew to give the Libs a clear run.

If Farage had withdrawn to give the Tories a clear run, the Tories would have won.

There's only one real loser in this by-election and it's Corbyn. But what is evident is that the majority of voters in this constituency still support leaving, which they did in 2016.

Your panglossian view of this result is quite staggering. Talk about clutching at straws.

Yep just proves that with our first past the post system can be perverted by back room deals and employing crooks 8-) ..........

The Tories and Brexit party are going to have to learn how to fight dirty at the next election >:-) ........

Panglossian eh? Big word for you. Google working well for you this morning. (lol)

Funny as I am often described on here by you and the other headbangers as being glass half empty, whinger, etc.

You dont know if there were Tory remainers voting Tory and Labour remain voters voting Labour. People vote for a wide variety of reasons, not just Brexit but a pure remain party, the LibDems have once again shown they are a force to be reckoned with.

Looking at the results from last night, the Brexit party voters could be the ones that pull down the conservative votes enough to allow ‘remain coalition’ parties to sneak over the line.

Nigel Farage could stealthily help remain parties defeat Brexit once and for all. :D That would indeed be poetic justice.

There is also no way whatsoever the Tories will Form a pact with Sewage as long as Dominic Cummings is in charge and probably not ever due to just plain arrogance.

Anyway lets just rejoice at this wonderful news this morning and be a bit "Panglossian". (lol)

I bet Boris is bricking it now wondering what to do. Delicious!!

All the Lib Dems have proved they can win by doing back room deals ;-) ........

Just as Labour proved they can win by employing convicted vote riggers 8-) .......

Which just goes to prove the next GE will be a really dirty fight >:-) .......

You're repeating what Tory Chairman James Cleverly said on Radio 4 Today - "that he was livid, saying the Brecon election pact between the Lib Dems, the Green Party and Plaid Cymru was a dirty backroom deal."

I think the pair of you might have a proper heart attack when you find out about the Tory party's £1 billion backroom pact with the DUP.

Why should I be bothered by a Boris/Farage pact? :-S ............

Why should I be bothered by British taxpayers money being spent in the UK instead of the EU? :-S .......

Why should I be bothered by British taxpayers money being spent in the UK instead of the EU? :-S .......

Doesn't look like much of a pact to me, given the latest email I receive as a Brexit Party "supporter"

Dear Supporter,

Many thanks for your continued support which is much appreciated. Together we have already made a significant impact on UK politics.

It appears that Tory leader Boris Johnson is now moving towards a reheated version of Theresa May's terrible Withdrawal Agreement - the worst deal in history, a treaty that was accurately described by Boris as reducing the UK to a state of 'vassalage'.

After a few short days making positive noises, the new Prime Minister is already talking about an extended period of Transition. A period when we would effectively still be in the Single Market and Customs Union, we would not be able to implement new trade deals, would still be subject to the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice and would not have control of our fishing waters. Under the terms of Mrs May’s agreement, we would also unnecessarily be paying £39 billion without the EU agreeing to any new trade deal.

As you would expect, exposing Boris’ backsliding on Brexit will be a focus for us in the weeks ahead.

We continue to prepare hard for an early General Election. Over the coming days we will announce the names of our first batch of Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs), and the constituencies they will be targeting. This list will include some of our Brexit Party MEPs, with more to follow.

Announcing our PPCs will demonstrate the high quality of our candidates and show the establishment parties that we mean business. In a few short weeks we have assessed some 3000 applications, interviewed more than 1200 people and been delighted by the number and calibre of the applicants. I know that you will do your best to support these candidates as they are announced and start to build up their constituency teams.

Lastly, you may have seen that we have scheduled a series of 11 conference events around the country during September.

At these events we aim to continue our theme of direct democracy. Before the set piece speeches at each conference, there will be an opportunity for you to meet with PPCs and MEPs and discuss your policy ideas. Please keep an eye out for more information on how to pre-register for a discussion slot.

I hope this gives you a better idea of our plans for the coming weeks. With your continued support, we can Change Politics for Good.

Kind regards,

Richard Tice

Chairman, The Brexit Party

One things for sure it highlights once again that the only majority is for remain. Presumably if you voted

Tory you voted for some kind of Brexit deal and if you voted Brexit party you voted for a no deal Brexit. They got just 10% of the vote so there is absolutely no mandate for what Farage has in mind but there will be no real majority for whatever Boris comes up with either which lets face it will just be Theresa's deal written in pink felt pen or something.

Once again when we know what the choice is the democratic thing to do is to let

The public decide.
