Well the first one, freezing the BBC licence fee is all part of Operation Red Meat. Yes thats right, that is what they have called it. Along with Johnsons Operation Save Big Dog which is his plan to save himself by shifting the blame and sacking those around him instead, operation Red Meat will see the BBC licence fee frozen, military involvement in the Channel crossings effort, a booze ban in No 10 and God knows what else in a desperate effort to appease his "revolting" back benchers and presumably to gander support with his greatly reducing dimwitted supporters.

Classic Trumpian divisive political tactics. Its hard to believe this is the same man who was once hailed as a progressive liberal as Mayor of London. A man totally without principle.

I'm no fan of the BBC and if you want to look at its bias then look no further than its Chairman and Director General and their political backgrounds, remember to that these appointments are made by government and then go on to appoint the rest of the BBC board. Probably explains hatchet jobs like this?

But I do see the need for public service broadcasting and without people having to invest in new technologies to access a subscription service how else do people suggest that we fund it? Or do we just want Fox and GBNEWS to determine what the plebs consume?

All this for 43p a day seems like a bargain to me.

Totally agree on the issue of value. What I object to is we all have to pay for all of it by way of a compulsory tax and prosecution if we don’t.

It's not compulsory at all.

The depth of the Tory delusion re the BBC can be seen in them blaming the beeb for playing up partygage when all the major developments have been broken by ITV..(etc)..

Exactly

But to watch ITV you have got to pay the BBC

Just correcting a LIE being spread by one of the Chimps up thread *-) .........

"The BBC’s decision to end free TV licences for most over-75s, after a two-month delay because of the coronavirus outbreak, has sparked a row with the government."

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2020/jul/09/bbc-to-end-free-tv-licences-for-most-over-75s

Obviously the BBC thinks spending millions on greedy Lefties like Lineker and Co is more important *-) ........

Interesting that Nadine considers scrapping the licnce, BUT, one of the possible replacements is a 'broadband tax' which might be £13 a month. So even those without a TV would end up paying!

It was interesting to see that, in parliament today, when asked what the new policy was she had to admit that they haven't come up with one yet.

The announcement was obviously part of the operation to distract everyone from Johnsons antics.

Incidentally, Priti Patel also announced today that the Royal Navy will take over from the Border Force to prevent immigrants crossing the channel in small boats.

Sounds like a bit of firm action, but , when asked what the Navy would be doing, she had to admit that they haven't decided yet.

For the dyslexic baboon up thread incapable of reading links including his own. *-)

"Ministers urged the broadcaster to reconsider what Downing Street described as “the wrong decision”. But the BBC pointed out it was the government that decided to stop paying for the benefit, and Labour and the charity Age UK accused the government of betraying pensioners and trying to shift the blame on to the broadcaster."

and from an earlier edition;

"There’s one CONSERVATIVE cut that’s quietly lining up to cause significant harm: taking the free TV licence away from people over the age of 75.

The free licences were introduced by Labour in 1999 as part of a plan to improve conditions for pensioners, with the cost funded by government.

BUT IN 2015 THE CONSERVATIVES ANNOUNCED THEY WOULD PHASE THIS OUT BY 2020 AND PUSH THE FINANCIAL BURDEN ON TO THE BBC, despite making a manifesto promise to keep up the £745m a year funding."

https://tinyurl.com/2p9h86bs

I am fortunate in that I can afford the tv licence and value the excellent first class documentaries the BBC produces.

The thread OP is obviously struggling to make ends meet.

I cant wait to see this one as it will spectacularly backfire. What the rabid ToryKippers and Gammons will visualise is British War ships blowing little rubber boats out of the water or maybe just firing warning shots across their bows (of the little rubber boats) but all that will happen is at some point there will be a rather embarrassing photo of a Navy vessel dragging refugees aboard to escort them to a British port. (lol) Well they cant escort them back to France now anyway because of Brexit. :D

They tried it with Border force but there is nothing they can do other than rescue them, its the rule of the sea and no skipper would do anything different, Navy or not.

Pathetic isn't it? Hey!! Look over here! The whataboutery with Starmer having a takeaway at an election constituency meeting showed just how desperate they are.

It aint going away though and evil Bond Villain Cummings has them in his sights. Top tip for thick as mince PMs. If you ever employ an evil Bond villain to tell you how to run the country, dont piss them off.

This is a good read looking at the downfall of previous PM's; :-D

“Everyone loves a sinner.” So one senior Tory chortled to me last autumn when his party was still sitting on a poll lead even as Wallpapergate and several other scandals were on the boil. He went on: “If Boris was caught shagging a goat in Downing Street, people would immediately make a goat beer and drink to his health.” 8-)

That senior Tory has had a sobering change of mind. He now thinks that Number 10 has generated a scandal so disgusting to the public that it will be terminal even for such a legendary escapologist. “Is Boris toast? Yes, he is toast. He’s lost the armour that used to protect him from the normal rules of political gravity. That’s evaporated. It’s definitely over. The question is when.”

Another former cabinet minister agrees: “The Teflon is all gone. The odds of him taking us into the next election are very low – in fact, near-zero.” A third Tory MP, previously a fervent admirer, says: “I think it’s over. I simply can’t see a way back from this.”

The Tories got less than half of the votes at the election, but because of our electoral system - and because there was no credible opposition at the time from Labour - they ended up with an 80 seat majority in government.

That has given the Tories, their supporters, and the media, a false sense of their 'popularity '

Your not kidding! I had a trawl through a thread on FB by our new Tory MP Dehenna Davidson this morning (and left her some advice B-) ) and she has gone from hero to zero. 80+ comments and I think only two were in support of her, the Tories and Johnson. At the start of 2020 it would have been the opposite.

Nadine Dorries rows back on plans to scrap licence fee amid BBC funding row

The government has pulled back from a threat to abolish the BBC licence fee from 2028 after Tory backbenchers claimed that ministers had failed to prepare alternatives.

Nadine Dorries, the culture secretary, confirmed yesterday that the licence fee would be frozen at £159 for the next two years. She did not, however, repeat a pledge to ditch the funding model altogether when the corporation’s charter was renewed.

Dorries, 64, tweeted on Sunday that this licence fee settlement “will be the last” but used less definitive language in the Commons, where she said that the BBC’s funding would be a matter of debate, adding: “It’s time to begin asking those really serious questions about the long-term funding model of the BBC.”

Dorries, who was admonished by Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker, for tweeting policy positions before addressing parliament, was repeatedly asked what alternative to the licence fee the government was proposing. “It’s not for me to decide until I have all the information,” she responded.

Pressed on whether the government would turn the BBC into a voluntary subscription service, Dorries said: “I haven’t mentioned a subscription service. I’ve said that we need to have a debate and discussion about how the BBC is funded.”

Damian Green, the Tory MP for Ashford, said: “One of the reasons we still have the licence fee is that, although it has all the obvious imperfections we all recognise, nobody’s come up with a better system that would guarantee we will continue to get everything from the BBC that people want and value.”

The comedian David Baddiel tweeted: “If, as the government is implying re the BBC, we should only pay for something we like and agree with, I wonder if I can ask for all the money back I’ve had to spend in taxes on Brexit.” (lol)(lol)

Excellent reporting from quality media;

Doing away with the funding stream without warning and with no replacement in sight in advance of a mid-charter review revealed Ms Dorries’ true intentions. The backlash to her peremptory threat was enough for her to back down.

It was hard not to believe the reason the BBC was being sacrificed was to distract attention away from accusations that the prime minister lied over illegal Downing Street parties. Nothing appears too valuable in British life that cannot be wrecked to save Boris Johnson’s premiership.

https://tinyurl.com/299b6cbn

And there you have it.........the REAL reason for creating this piece of sensationalism is to take the heat off their beloved Dear Leader. This sh1tty lot will pull every trick in the book to get that liar off the hook.
