We are thinking of going to france on 2/3rd june for the celebrations of the "D" Day landings on the 6th & taking over jeeps ect, But there will be a lot going so we need to jump in as fast as we can to get tickets for the crossing. Can anyone help with the best deals for tickets, do you know of a shop that will do a good deal re vehicles & passenges say 10 passenges & 4 jeeps/cars +1 van

Thanks Wayne.

We got stuck on Bastille day many years ago - the troops were returning from the Falklands Conflict so our crossing was delayed by 40+ mins: when we got to Calais it was dark, we were last off and there was chaos on land due to celebrations. Have a look at the various web-sites for Eurostar, channel ferries etc. - booking extra early might enable you to get a better discount too. Your local tourist shop might help also.

We've been along the Normandy beaches and also WW1 areas several times - but never on D-Day anniversaries. There always seem to be groups of Americans and occasionally Canadians there. I find it all unbelievably depressing - especially the sight of all those names on the Menin Gate. Can't believe that we have learned absolutely nothing from all those deaths, well, maybe we have, but unfortunately the likes of Teflon and GW haven't and are still sending people to their deaths in pursuit of their place in history - and oil as well of course. B-)
