I can just about read that article !

So Boris Johnsons new Press Secretary, Allegra Stratton, claims that Johnson is someone " who acts with integrity and is honest ".

So should we take any of her future press briefings seriously ?

:-D

She's obviously a very poor judge of character! One reader quipped it must be an April Fools joke!

Here is the article;

Speak to Boris Johnson, Jennifer Arcuri told City Hall officials

Jennifer Arcuri bypassed officials to secure Boris Johnson’s attendance at the events she organised while peppering her emails with kisses and emoticons, internal documents show.

In correspondence released under freedom of information laws, the businesswoman told City Hall staff that “Boris himself” was her point of contact.

One official questioned why the mayor of London was scheduled to attend a tech conference set up by Arcuri in 2014. They wrote: “Jennifer Arcuri of Innotech is advertising that the mayor is attending her summit. Is there someone in the GLA whose job it is to stop false advertising in the mayor’s name, such as this?” A second official replied that Johnson would indeed be “attending for 15 minutes”. The first replied: “Oh I see! I just assumed it would be an enormous waste of his time.”

Arcuri, 36, claimed this week that she had a four-year affair with Johnson, 56, and they had sex on a sofa in his home in 2016 while he was married to Marina Wheeler QC. It emerged two years ago that her businesses secured £126,000 in taxpayer-funded sponsorship for events, although £100,000 came from a 2019 government grant, three years after the alleged relationship with Johnson ended.

Allegra Stratton, the prime minister's press secretary, responded to Arcuri’s claims in the Daily Mirror this week by saying that Johnson had been cleared of all accusations of impropriety after an investigation last year by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Stratton said Johnson was someone who “acts with integrity and is honest” and that he would “engage” with a separate inquiry by the London Assembly’s oversight committee into potential misconduct. A 242-page compilation of redacted emails is likely to be key in the committee’s investigation.

In one message in 2015 Arcuri wrote that she only secured business deals for her tech company because she accompanied Johnson on trade missions to New York, Malaysia and Singapore. A month later she wrote to someone referred to as “Dearest” that she wanted to go on a City Hall visit to Israel. She said: “Can I apply to go on this mission trip in October? . . . Come with me when we go ;-) ??!!!!! Xxx.”

In 2013 Arcuri said that officials who were concerned that Johnson was attending a round table with Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs should raise the matter with “Boris himself”. Before the event, an official asked her to “refrain from going to the mayor direct”, saying that Johnson’s diary had been rearranged “significantly” to make time for the conference.

Last night the Conservative Party confirmed to the Daily Mail that it had paid more than £10,000 to Johnson’s lawyers in relation to the Arcuri affair. The party said it was a “party political matter” in response to a “politically motivated” attack by Labour but refused to confirm the total sum.

The comments section;

Once a liar and a cheat, always a liar and cheat. Before his misdemeanors impacted a few key people in his life. Now it is the whole country.

Good on the Times for continuing to follow this story up

’acts with integrity and is honest’ ?

Oh please . By all means remove discreetly all standards for public office , but don’t insult the population by pretending we have any .

It’s really odd isn’t it, how some people are allowed to shrug off “scandals” and dishonesty? Just imagine if it had been Cameron or Blair for instance. I bet they would have been forced to resign within a couple of weeks. Johnson seems to share this teflon quality with Trump during his time in office.

This country needs to start thinking with its head again, rather than its Johnson.

From the Independent which sums up the staggering indifference some people have stooped to;

Let’s take a closer look at what Allegra Stratton describes as Boris Johnson’s ‘honesty and integrity’

Yes, this sort of thing might be career ending for anyone still hoping to cling on to their last ounce or so of shame, but this is Boris Johnson we’re talking about. It is truly a testament to the uniquely low expectations he has conspired to set for himself that no one could even be bothered to ask about it.

When it emerged that Donald Trump had paid hush money to a porn star, the world hardly managed a shrug. And so it is with Johnson, the heir to the now tried-and-tested shock-and-bore strategy. In some ways, one has to admire the achievement.

He leads a government that says what it wants, does what it wants, doesn’t do what it doesn’t want, never apologises, never explains, certainly never resigns and absolutely nobody expects any different anymore.
