What Westminster fails to understand about Boris Johnson: he’s a celebrity first, politician second.

 

His nearest rival is Jeremy Clarkson, not Rishi Sunak. But celebrity and governing don’t mix, as Tories are discovering.

The article says a lot when it says imagine David Cameron on the seafront at Hartlepool, instead of Boris Johnson. When 2 other Old Etonian Tory Toffs (Cameron & Osborne) told them to vote remain they instinctively did the opposite to spite them. But Johnson created this classless image. Same Old Etonian Tory but with a quirky toddler's haircut to make him look different. He could promise them anything and they would believe him because they liked the look of him and wanted to believe him. Wheras they would instinctively disbelieve the other 2 Eton Tory Toffs, even when they were telling the truth.

Unfortunately for us (and especially the English whose money is being used to buy Johnson votes in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales), the skills needed to climb the slimy pole of politics are not the same skills needed to run the country.

and still go on to be Prime Minister with an 80 seat majority

Do people just look at the friendly face and quirky appearance, and ignore the words?

 

There was an interesting experiment on TV some years ago on the lines of 'Would I Lie To You?'

Difference was the picture was broadcast in only half the country, wheras the other half could see the faces and hear the words.

Remarkably the people who couldn;t see the picture were far better at calling out the liars because they concentrated on the words. They weren't distracted by so called body language which is far easier to fake as Johnson shows.

I think what words he utters are just as important as the scruffy appearance. Certainly for his acolytes. The silly inane gibberish soundbites which appealed to them because of their simplicity, he pretends being one of the gang and his followers fall for it because they aren't the brightest bulbs in the box. Johnson is a con-merchant.....simple as that.

 

Kippers got him into Downing street to push Brexit through by infiltrating the Tory party via it's nasty group of right wing extremists the ERG hence the reason it's swung even further to the right. Now they've got what they wanted (UK out of EU), seen the huge damage to industry it's caused and chaos it's plunged the country into, realised they cannot keep blaming the pandemic and certainly not the EU who simply applied the rules which apply to all third countries.
