Mainly late May to late September and peaking in time for the human silly season for July and August is generally accepted as being the main midgie silly season in the Highlands and Islands but if it is warmer earlier or later the midgie season extends to take full advantage of the presence of us walking food supply types.

As richard says.

I think theres a midge watch, or some such thing but not sure how much help it would be.

My best tip is to aviod well sheltered sites (or pitches), the windier the better.

 

.. .. .. and wetter *-) but that's not too difficult

 

the east coast is less dangerous too,

otherwise just try all the tried recommendations to discourage them, doesn't necessarily work but gives you something else to worry about :D
