Storm Barra: Met Office issues weather warning as 40mph winds are set to batter North East

Winds of over 40mph are set to hit the North East on Tuesday, the Met Office says as it issues a yellow weather warning covering the entire country.

People living throughout the North East, the rest of England and Wales, and parts of eastern Scotland can expect "strong winds", "potential travel disruption" and possible power cuts on Tuesday December 7, the Met Office's yellow warning says.

Coastal areas in County Durham, South Tyneside, North Tyneside and Northumberland can expect some of the strongest winds, including gusts of over 40mph and heavy rain in Seaham, Sunderland, Tynemouth, Blyth, Amble and Berwick.
