Midge magnets

Had a wander around Scotland recently and on one site I came across some " midge magnets" which I've not seen before.

This one was on the Pinetrees Leisure site at Tyndrum ( recently re-opened after a 7 year closure, and completely redeveloped ).

I'm told it gives off carbon dioxide ( or something similar ) which attracts midges and 'sucks' them in.

The warden opened this one for me and there was quite a thick layer of expired midges in the bottom, so they seem to work.

(Actually there don't seem to be so many midges in Scotland so far this year, maybe they all went to Wales to see Dave).

I want one!

...or shall I just keep eating the Marmite? *-)

Eeek...Marmite's cheaper! LINK

Depends how big your garden is Janine. It is claimed that these 'magnets' can clear up to one acre of midges.

If your garden is a lot smaller than that, maybe just breathing out Marmite fumes will do the trick.
