The "worst case scenario" warning comes after analysis of likely traffic flows, if customs checks are delayed. Despite the wails of "Project Fear"....now reduced to a wimper, UK Gov obviously fear this as when i returned back to Dover in August the M20 was lined with miles of cones. Talking to a couple of British truck drivers on the same ferry they told me the works include building a huge parking area to try and avoid Operation Stack. Funny but the significance of Dover port was explained at the time so Kent Brexiters should fund their own stupidity. Brexit voting Raab openly admitted he didn't realise the importance of Dover port....and he was Brexit Secretary! *-) Oh wait a minute....we've got another bloke in now but he suffers memory loss over EU tariffs and dates. I wonder if he knows where Dover is let alone the importance of the port! Common sense tells us there are about the same number of lorries travelling both ways because those bringing stuff in will return whether fully loaded or not. Probably yes - because they have to run to a timetable even if the lorries are stuck in customs Do I have to explain the difference between the capacity of the ferries, and the capacity of customs to process the lorries? When I was in the business British registered lorries had the highest road and fuel tax in Europe - the Government found it a handy stealth tax to tax lorries because voters like him didn't realise they were paying it. So British International Road Haulage was going the same way as Britsh Merchant shipping - taxed and regulated out of business. Those who could registered their lorries abroad like the shipping companies do, or transferred their work to foreign registered lorries with big fuel tanks they filled up across the channel, so the British Exchequer got no tax revenue at all. BUT.......As you've already admitted most of those 2 million EU trucks will be returning EMPTY ;-) ......... So NO declaration required :-| ...........
