Mel B
I have a little camper van I like him quite a lot He's really just a rusty ‘can But he's taxed and has a MOT I don’t have lots of cash to waste So he doubles as my car And takes me out without much haste To places near and far We’ve been up mountains for the view Where I sit and stare with glee No one there - just us ‘two’ And the beautiful sights we see Off down the valley towards the sea The harbour with boats tied-up Then fish and chips and mushy peas Buttered bread and tea to sup! As darkness falls, the blinds I close And settle down for my sleep Inside my van I gently doze, Knowing that me he’ll safely keep We love our little adventures Our pottering around We don’t have any worries or cares Just enjoy places we’ve found So, he may not be real handsome And although he’s getting old I’ll never part with my great chum To me he’s solid gold

ROON
Oh Mel... that's lovely and so true for me too... (I mean the poem, not that I'm lovely :-( ). Funny how we actually DO think of the van as a friend isn't it. Joy
twooks
actually Mel's exercising a touch of poetic licence cos her van's not old and rusty at all :-> still - she's presumably too busy celebrating to care :D B-)
Mel B
Celebrating? 8-) Have I missed something???? :-S As for the poem, yup, my 'van is not an oldie at all but I just felt the urge to be poetic! When writing it I was thinking about how we become attached to some vehicles. We have had in the past an old Commer Autosleeper pop-top which wasn't rusty at all and in very very good nick and it went to a classic car enthusiast who had been drooling over it at classic car shows! We also had an old ambulance we converted - lovely beastie but this was a bit rusty round the front 'gill's. Had we not needed more room and umph etc we'd probably still have the Commer now. And don't even get me started on my little 'baby' Rapido ... I still miss him ........ :-(
