Hi Peter We did this crossing last year on our tour of the Scottish coast. We did the mid afternoon crossing and I think as well as the wife does there was some places as you got of the ferry, but cannot remember excactly as we did spend a month in Scotland. WE drove north and ended up on a campsite for one night at Sligachan, with a good pub just a short away that did great beer. If you did not want to go on the campsite there was a layby just before the campsite that was suitable for a wild cam as somebody stayed there overnight. We also drove to the north of Skye where there are lots of places for wild camping. Have a grood trip. I am jealous. John

Hello, We did the same trip in May this year, and after arriving in Mallaig drove to Elgol where we wild camped at the bottom of a steep hill, with wonderful views across the bay to the Cuillins. From Elgol you can also take a boat trip to Loch Corruisk in the heart of the Cuillins, and possibly walk back on the coast (via the famous "Bad Step" rock). We had some difficulty getting back up the steep hill which which includes some tight bends, and had to take a run at it at peak revs in first gear (Autocruise Starfire, 2.2L HDI). An exciting start to a wonderful holiday in Skye! Best wishes Tony :-)

Hi Peter, What better place could you find for the night than at Armadale. There is a small car park right where you come off the ferry, with several parking spaces backing up to a hedge or bank ? There is a good drinking water supply available in the car park. There were no parking charges, anti motorhome signs or height barriers. We stayed here for the night in mid July 2006. The last ferry arrived about 1825 and departed, for Mallaig, about 15 minutes latter. Had a wander along the foreshore and generally sat around soaking up the atmosphere. Enjoyed a very quiet night, deafened only by the silence. Enjoy :-D
