Bulletguy
The tragic deaths of three family members in the Spanish resort swimming pool has me puzzled. One death which is bad enough, is believable, but then for the girls father and brother to both die whilst attempting to rescue her, is somewhat baffling. Both father and son are said to be good swimmers, well built and over 6ft tall. The deepest part of the pool is 2metres and the pool itself is not particularly large. Another oddity though is there is no deep end as in most swimming pools. The deep part is right in the middle. I've never seen a pool built that way at all. The Spanish police have closed down their investigation rather quickly. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10645087/costa-del-sol-drownings-brit-girl-death/ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-50949442
jumpstart
Certainly seemed odd to me. Bit more investigation needed.
Bulletguy
jumpstart - 2020-01-01 4:28 PM Certainly seemed odd to me. Bit more investigation needed. Had it been at sea i wouldn't have been so surprised as the power of the sea can be overwhelming, that said, so can the river Thames which is notorious for currents. I read this on another forum yesterday. There are approximately 236,000 injuries in European swimming pools every year. Most of the injuries are to children and teens. In the United Kingdom for example, more children died in pools abroad while on vacation than at home in the United Kingdom, and more than half of those who drowned could in fact swim. https://www.childsafetyeurope.org/publications/info/factsheets/tourism-water-related-injuries.pdf Spain has twice the water related death rate as Portugal and is nearly twice as high as in the UK. https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/web/products-eurostat-news/-/DDN-20190809-1 I'm not sure of the pools surface area but this link explains law in Spain on public pools. https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/spain/lifestyle/sports-leisure/spanish-pool-laws
jumpstart
For two people to go in to help a third ,I find very strange that all perished in a small pool. Doesn’t add up.
thebishbus
It would seem strange if they were GOOD swimmers. But if they were poor swimmers and not knowing the deep part was in the middle it could happen . The other girl, obviously a poor swimmer realised she was getting out of her depth and managed to get out . Brian B.

Brian, apparently both the son and father were able swimmers but as you've probably already seen from the links i posted, swimming pool deaths are fairly high and over half those killed were able to swim. Some years back there was a tragedy involving a father, son and friend of the father who had gone fishing in a small boat in the Bristol channel. They got into difficulties offshore, no radio, no phone and not even any flares, so very ill prepared. The boat overturned and the son being the most physically fit and a strong swimmer, decided to try to swim to shore to raise the alarm. He didn't make it and drowned. The father, also a good swimmer, he drowned too. The sole survivor being the fathers friend, a non-swimmer who had clung to the boat, but what saved him was being heavily obese.
