The first Brexit casualties of 2020

Rail commuters have been given their New Years "present" of a 2.7% hike in fare costs from a Brexit government who have enabled annual train fare increases in their ten year office.

Another example of "taking back control". *-)

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said they are “putting passengers first”. :-S

The first Brexit casualty of 2020 is you princess and your twisted und warped view ... Looks like youve started off 2020 where ya finished 2019 with guff sweet cheeks ... Family gone home now ???

He'll be complaining next about a similar increase in his State Pension ...

... oh. I forgot. He's a greedy Socialist and will expect a good increase. If he doesn't get one, no doubt he will moan about it in Chatterbox. :-(

Where's me ear defenders? 8-)

I have mixed feelings on this.

On the one hand I can see what a disaster the rushed and botched Tory rail privatisation has been - the public owned railways across the channel being far better and cheaper.

But since the privatised railway is costing more who should pay for it?

Those that use it?

or the long suffering taxpayer who doesn't?

Train price increases don't affect me at all as i never had to use them to commute for work.....but then unlike selfish sneery people like you, i care about those it does affect.

From the outside looking in I would suggest your rail pricing structure is totally screwed up now well before Brexit. In 2019 I purchased a ticket from Bath to Newport and another from Newport to Chirk. Buying two separate tickets was around 30% cheaper than a Bath to Chirk ticket on the same trains. My Sister was meeting us in Chirk (to go narrow boating) and did the same from London via Birmingham with a similar saving in price. Fairly certain that is not a Brexit issue but more a pricing systems issue. maybe if they corrected those inequities in the pricing structure you would not need a price increase!! By the way it was a very enjoyable train journey in two very comfortable and clean trains so they got that part right. cheers,

Yes you can get oddities in the pricing like that Gary but what many commuters are increasingly angry about is the lack of carriages at peak times meaning standing room only.....and people are paying thousands £ in some cases for a season ticket.

If you haven't been already, Switzerland is well worth a visit as their public transport system is absolutely brilliant.....and not overly expensive either. A lot of our rail infrastructure was broken up and closed down years ago, but in Switzerland you can get virtually everywhere via bus/train.......even up the some mountains!

Off topic but how much worse can your fires get? We are seeing the horrors on the news here and in some areas people have been told by authorities to move out.....only to sit on a road rammed with vehicles queuing to leave!

Train price increases don't affect me

Train prices affect us all even if we don't use the trains.

Taxpayers are paying the fares of MPs and Civil Servants expenses etc

It adds to the costs of business that increases prices for consumers etc

Its a fundamental issue with the rail network being run by over 2000 different private contractors, all trying to maximise profits for themselves, screw the others and blame them when things go wrong.

If threre is a track fault which contractor is responsible, train is delayed by it who pays compensation, other trains stuck behind it sends ripples throughout the network, etc etc

Then when you sell through tickets at varying prices, how do you divvy up the fare between all the different companies.

Even Ultra-right-wing Norman Tebbitt said Rail Privatisation wouldn't work.

But the consultants to the Government are full of chancers like BoJo who will promise anything to get themselves the top job.

Let’s have another casualty of 2020...cut foreign aid....spend of rail and busses.

But Bojo needs your 'foreign aid money' to buy votes from Scotland, Wales and Ireland, and for the likes of Jennifer Arcuri so he gets treated like Royalty on his foreign junkets.

In any case, you don't cure a spolt child by throwing money at it. Just like the privatised rail network.

Eh? 8-) ...........

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7847059/Property-price-rise-2-Boris-bounce-boosts-housing-market-experts-predict.html

Dont they know we supposed to be having a house price crash???? (lol) (lol) (lol) .........

According to the LOSERS economic experts >:-) .........

It was George Osborne who predicted a fall in house prices due to Brexit.

He must have thought he was still campaigning in Tatton.

But much of the country needs a fall in house prices.

So George Osborne's promise of a house price fall is probably what sunk us.

In any case house prices are not being controlled by the EU.

But by the so called Free Market Tory Government's interventions in the housing market,

Restricting supply, whilst stoking up demand with taxpayer funded subsidies like so called 'Help to Buy' and Housing Benefit.

Socialism for the Rich.

'Fishface' doesn't want your money and neither do I.

Because thats whats stopping Scotland voting for independence.

But since we 'Losers' have got you 'Winners' money, we might as well make the most of it :D

And when BoJo sends us even more of your money, neither him or 'Fishface' will want to advertise it to you.
