Typical of all those bang on Lefty/Liberal/Socialist/Communist hypocritical folk who like to claim the "moral high ground" which has built so high because of their own bullsh*t *-) ..........

HI,

I wonder what the carbon footprint of Glastonbury is.

cheers

derek

It will be offset by the CO2 consumed by great numbers of Cannabis plants grown to serve the attendees. ;-)

Just a wild guess but Im assuming none of you in this thread have ever been to Glastonbury festival.

You can be assured that all that junk, every last scrap of it is appropriately recycled which had it been consumed elsewhere who knows where it would end up, land fill, the sewers or the sea even.

Organisations such as Greenpeace and other "Right on" causes are very much represented at Glasto (I used to work for them). Ok so Rock Stars flying in in Helicopters is not exactly saving the planet but there is always a strong environment preservation message throughout the entire event. The kids will get high, shag each other senseless and have a good time but hopefully some of that will sink in.

Van safely returned by daughter who took it to Glastonbury. She and her friends had a great time. They are good kids who deserve some respite from being generation rent.

Looks like most of the "kids" were good. Emily Eavis "Just heard that 99.3% of all tents were taken home. That is absolutely incredible… HUGE thanks to the record numbers who loved the farm and left no trace!"

Went to the first ever Glasto in 1970.....great time, fond memories and all for the princely sum of a quid! (see poster on link) Weather apart the only really bad 'black cloud' everyone felt was the death of Jimi Hendrix the day before.

Exactly.....and none of these photos will make it to msm yet there's over 3,000 of 'em on Glasto's Twitter feed.

Yes its a fantastic event mostly attended by great people. Typical of the Sun and the angry Gammon brigade to try and take a pop at something that has done nothing but share joy, great music, support good causes like Greenpeace and share some good messages for several decades. Great to see Sir David Attenborough grabbing the entire crowds attention. So much respect from the youngsters, you could have heard a pin drop at one stage.

Yes Attenborough spoke very well. 135,000 tickets were sold and it's unrealistic to expect everyone to 'follow the rules' but most did and that's all that matters. Damned when they do and damned when they don't. Always great to see a wide age range now at Glasto.

Not sure how things will pan out next year for the smaller professionals. The MU is concerned as it's already affecting some and not looking good at all.

Mmmmm ... "You can be assured that all that junk , every last scrap of it is appropriately recycled" ... Might be nice to hear how that works when the majority of plastics cant be recycled ... Please do tell ... You might want to talk to a good friend of mine that each work day drops off tonnes of stuff at landfill that you , me and the rest of the numpties put into recycle ... I did say "Appropriately" as in where possible. Have a read of this. https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife/what-happens-rubbish-glastonbury-festival-3035327

The festival itself went plastic free completely this year and what they do to educate and spread the word regarding saving the environment is second to none. How many gigs and festivals do you go to that do the same?

But princess before the "Appropriately" I do believe you wrote "You can be assured that all that junk , every last scrap it is appropriately recycled" ??? ... As for the festivals I go to they dont claim to be green and they dont preach to festival goers and I bet if you put all the festivals and gigs together that Ive been to over the years the carbon footprint of them all combined wouldnt be as much as one Glastonbury festival ... Glastonbury didn't go plastic free this year either

They claimed they did. There were 135000 people at that festival. Pretty much all of them will have had the chance to absorb and learn about climate change, As said you could hear a pin drop when Sir David spoke. Long term that has to be worth the carbon footprint of a few choppers and the work required to set it all up. Not only that it was watched not only here but around the world. It sends a terrific message. The fact that that "Daily Gammon" (The Sun) and it seems the usual suspects online are taking a pop at them when its clear people like that dont give a toss about climate change is very sad indeed.

Over 200.000 actually attended Barry ... Plus the 2000 or so staff and so on and so on ... You think the carbon footprint of that lot is worth being told what we already know from Sir David ... Lordy what a loop

Barry, don't preach to me and the others of my generation about ecology.

The only plastic container I buy is Soda Water ... to go with my Brandy. We are not the ones wandering the streets with a plastic bottle of Supermarket water. We are not the ones discarding plastic bottles of energy drinks (the irony being that after consuming the contents, the person does not have the energy to find a bin).

By all means preach ... but don't preach to us, preach to the younger generations, the Millenials and the Snowflakes.

Now off you go son .... aaaahh, the innocence of thhe young motorhomer. *-)

Give him a break ... Those middle aged Londoners all fell silent at Glastonbury when Sir David was talking so it looks like climate change will be reversed thanks to Glastonbury ... Mind Glastonbury fell silent when that millionaire Eavis got Corbyn to chat to that same London crowd , that dint do much good either

So you disagree with the actions of Trump who tore up the rule book on climate change which he's described as "a hoax" and now deregulated fossil fuels, loosened regulations on toxic air pollution, and rescinded methane-flaring rules to name but a few?

"The Trump administration has made it a top priority to attack climate science at every turn," says Kassie Siegel, director of the Climate Law Institute at the Center for Biological Diversity. In 2017, Trump disbanded a federal climate panel tasked with evaluating the National Climate Assessment, and, in 2018, he created a wildlife protection panel mostly composed of trophy hunters and politically connected donors to hunting groups. In addition, the Trump administration has rewritten the mission statements of various government agencies, such as the Department of the Interior, and has promoted the deregulation of fossil fuels through the Environmental Protection Agency.

"Everything from the Trump administration playbook comes straight from the fossil fuel industry polluter playbook," Siegel says. "The fact that some of these people have a Ph.D. just doesn't change the fact that they are mouthpieces for polluters."

Pulled US out of the Paris Climate Accords as Trump wants power stations like this one in Georgia to pollute the air.

By all means preach ... but don't preach to us, preach to the younger generations, the Millenials and the Snowflakes.

Now off you go son .... aaaahh, the innocence of thhe young motorhomer. *-)

Yeah Yeah, so your a greeny? Who knew? Have you got a Wigwam and can you sing and play "Blowin in the Wind"? *-)

Im not preaching to anyone. Im not particularly green myself but its stuff like this that maybe makes people think about it more thats all. Its just the same hang em high angry crowd having a pop at the happy beautiful people again. Snowflakes, Twendy wendy's etc etc.

Why not balance this discussion up and post one of Rogers posts off the Fruities. The one with 2 photos, the aftermath of Glasto and the aftermath of a Forces music festival. Then we will see who are responsible and who are not.
