... Promised Eurotunnel delays, port delays, medical shortages, food shortages blah blah blah start ???

Probably when the massive amount of stuff we stockpiled before Brexit that led to thousands of trucks being gridlocked in Kent runs out.

Right ... So the gridlock in Kent before and during Christmas was caused by stockpiling and not Macron closing the border ... Chuckle ... So when the stockpiles have gone what time do you think your promised shortages will start ??? ... You could ask your government insider for help if ya struggling

No but its one reason there were so many foreign trucks in the UK stuck when Macron shut the border.

Even without that experts were saying that early Jan it might not be so bad as traffic would be low anyway. i guess we will find out in the coming weeks wont we if their systems, checks (although I hear there just wont be any UK side) are up to the job.

Aaaah ... So the gridlock now wasn't caused by stockpiling ... It was just one of the reasons and the main reason was Macron but of course you seem to be ignoring that ... So "in the coming weeks" we'll find out if all your delays and shortages doomsday guff which included blaming Brexit voters for deaths due to medical shortages comes true ... Should be interesting, given your prediction success rate my money aint on you

If the pre-Christmas closing of their Borderby the French was OTT (in relation to the relatively low risk which lorry drivers pose of transmitting COVID-19) then the French made their point (about givingin to them about fishing rights) so that issue isn't likely to cropup again for several years. Both Countries now seem to want to make the cross-Channel flow of goods work smoothly so perhaps it will; UK Customs are taking a relaxed approach for the first six months and the French also appear to be avoiding being overtly obstructive. There appears to be no reason at the moment why either side will do otherwise, so maybe commercial traffic will continue to flow.

Let's hope so. I can't see that continuing the arguments for and against Brexit has any value at all for now, we are where we are and we simply need to hope things will work out smoothly and in due course we can look at whether Brexit has been worthwhile or not. No point in pre-judging that, just because it would suit our own deeply held hopes to be proved right.

Well yes. I guess we will just have to wait and see but its likely some of the chaos will have been avoided because we did agree a deal on tariff free goods access at least but it remains to be seen what effect the none tariff barriers will have. The main concern seems to be the unwillingness of European drivers and haulage companies actually coming to the UK and if they do what extra costs will be involved to ensure they do. That I suspect will depend on how well it flows over the next few weeks.

Meanwhile. There will be blue trucks over, the white cliffs of Dover, tomorrow, just you wait and see! (lol)

Because the alternative, documenting every single HGV through the ports as they should be, would bring the country to it's knees in a matter of hours. We have neither the manpower or equipment to cope. From the promised extra 3000 - 5000 border force staff they've recruited just 16.

Currently the ports commercial traffic is running as per EU status so companies will still be getting JIT deliveries.

There's an element of schadenfreude about that but i'd love to know what the main reason such a high percentage (59%) voted Brexit. I suspect it was immigration. Now they're about to have a massive truck park stuck in their back yard they feel "betrayed'' and "trapped by the lies of government".

No delays at ferry ports today ... No food shortages today ... No medical supplies shortages today ... No truth in all the doomsday scare stories today ... Oh dear

From which, after one day, one should conclude what? That nothing will change from now on? Hold your nerve, give it three months, and then make judgements. You sound like that man who famously fell off the Empire State Building and was heard muttering, as he fell, so far so good! :-D

The reason there are no delays as yet is because they're waving commercial trucks through Brian because the infrastructure to cope with the logistics of documenting every single truck is not in place. This is scheduled to continue for at least six month, so effectively all our ports are still running as per EU status and not third country.

Probably because the "hatey types" didn't think anyone could be so stupid as to think otherwise. This is a normally a period when movements between UK and the continent are low. If there are to be problems they will begin to emerge when the cross border flows normalise. Bit obvious, no?

It was said for a while that in the first few weeks of January it would probably be quiet, plus your moron in chief managed to get a tariff free deal, plus they just seem to have forgotten about fortress Britain and taking back control of our borders and are just letting anything through.

Nope. Not guff. Most thought on here and in the media that early Jan would not be a true reflection of what was to come plus as I said we got a deal and the UK has just opened its borders anyway so a good time to be a smuggler!! As for a return to the troubles, well Northern Ireland is effectively still in the EU. Thats how they solved the Irish border problem. Keep up!
