Sorry Chopper, but this is a motorhome related subject, and not the sort of thing we encourage on this forum.

If you go all the way back to page 23 on the motorhome section, then you will find this fully covered by Geoff Bell under the heading "Wild Camping".

Any new years resolutions you would like to pass on Wayne? *-)

For many years when we lived in Cornwall we often wild 'camped' with our, and with friends, motor caravan on Dartmoor. During this time we met several rangers who were always friendly and helpful and did not object.

And then one day in the mid 80's it all changed when we arrived late one evening to our favourite spot and were quickly jumped on by a passing ranger who told us in no uncertain terms to leave immediately, failing which Police action would follow. Not wishing to make a big issue we left as asked (and parked up somewhere very quiet!), but as we liked the spot we came back the next day where we met another friendly ranger who explained (over a cup of tea) that whilst caravans and motor caravans had been banned from camping off site mainly for reasons of sanitation, it was still OK for cyclists backpackers and walkers to camp wild because they could not always get to a site.

When I politely asked him if their 'personal waste' was of a less contaminating variety than ours - which we always took home with us as opposed to leaving it 'on site' - he merely shrugged and said that although he was inclined to agree 'that was the rules nowadays'

We were so disillusioned much that we left that evening and none of us ever went back. Net result - Dartmoor shops, pubs and businesses just lost a bit more revenue from several clean and careful wild camping families.

And so it came to pass that a little bit more of our freedom was curtailled.
