Engine power?

Recommended Posts

Hello Beetle,

To save you having to repost, take a look at the website for Van Aaken, in Bracknell Berks, who are specialists in tuning all types of diesel engines. They are very approachable and knowledgeable and have several solutions depending on engine and injection type.

Regards,

Mike.

Hi Beetle, My last 'van was an Autotrail Cherokee 'L' on a VW 5 cylinder, it was fitted with a T.B. Turbo by a previous owner. Went very well but performance no where near as good as my Legend on a NON TURBO Transit 2.5 diesel. But I must admit I don't know what the performance on the VW was like before the turbo was fitted, so I can't say if it was an improvement.

I drive a Transit 2.5 Non Turbo Diesel Van, with 150,000miles on the clock, I find it's more important to be in the correct gear, than try for outright speed. Mine will pull up most hills easily, including the twisting 1 in 4's over the Strines (Penistone to A57) but it will not accellerate up them. Just keep in a mid gear and let the engine pull away steady. B-)

I have owned 2 X 2.5 Transits. One went much better than the other after changing the injectors to Stanadyne. Do not ever fit recon Lucas. Argyle Deisel Electrics in East Kilbride did this and tuned the van.

I now own a 2.0L Turbo Peugeot to which they fitted a Stienbauer "P" box. Simple to fit and you can take it to the next van (if same make of injector system). Therefore a better bet than chipping. Great improvement in performance and slightly better MPG. Will pul at 30mph in top and goes up any hill in one gear highter than before.

Awra best from Bute
