Wow, where do we start? There are so many interesting places just in Normandy and Brittany that we could be here all day giving you lists of them.

I would suggest that you buy these guide books:

They are brilliant books which list all the places worth seeing using a star system. Three stars is worth a special journey, two stars a reasonable journey and one star worth a short detour.

They have driving tours, the history, architecture and gastronomic delights of each region and we have one for every part of France, so useful do we find them.

Each one has a fold-out map for a quick glance at the region's highlights and hot spots, which makes it very easy to plan a route and itinerary.

If you look on Amazon you can often find used ones at low prices and it doesn't matter if they're a year or two old. The places you'll enjoy won't have changed..

One thing about France is you'll sometimes get the impression that there is a tourist information office in even the smallest villages, it may sound obvious but when you find yourself in any location seek one out, usually well sign posted.

France has come on leaps and bounds in recent years in providing far more information and guides in the English language, go in to some and you'll get the feeling they've been waiting all day for just you to walk in, we find them an invaluable resource.

As for places to go I can only echo the above, where does one start, I won't, suffice to say for us at least France still holds surprises around every corner and we've been going for years, we usually go inland rather than coastal areas though, and for fear of being shot down in flames we don't rate Brittany at all, nor the Med coasts much..

The trick is to merely stop sometimes and have a mooch around,we have found and had some of our most memorable experiences that way, anyway, enjoy. ;-)

Great start, thanks will do a bit of research this weekend

Forgot to mention yesterday, but this website, although I'm sure there are many others, has a wealth of information, including some very good routing directions and options, as well as information on the various regions, something to put in your bookmarks list.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi,

We like St Malo for a couple of days and the municipal campsite there was very cheap and walking distance to town.

We had a lovely couple of days in Carnac, quite busy but beautiful beaches and walks.

Have fun

Lynne
