water stain, remove or cover?

Hi, we have a water stain by one of the Skylights. Looks horrible. Tried to clean but nothing. Is it possible to wallpaper over it. or put vinyl up etc and just cover it all. It does look at bit dowdy with being a mid 90,s van. Awful patterns etc. We are going down the re upholstery route to modernise it one day but can we do anything in the meantime

Thanks

How big is it?

If it's just a small or narrow area, consider masking up and just painting over it, using as close a colour match as you can get. Use vinyl emulsion paint if the ceiling is a matt finish. A painted band around a skykight won't really be noticeable.

Very careful use of masking tape will pay dividends, to get the band of painted ceiling even. Even better if you can round the corners a tad.

I assume the stain was created by the roof light leaking? - if that's the case you need to ensure the ingress had been rectified before you consider any cosmetic work.

How you disguise the offending stain will depend on how far it has spread from the internal trim.....

But do check you are satisfied that the leak has been dealt with properly, I would remove the trim to make a closer inspection.

Thanks, the skylight has been repaired badly, it looks messy, so we are putting a new one in. Unfortunately the ceiling and walls are patterned and some sort of strange material. Like a spongy padded wallpaper

Spongy padded wallpaper? Sounds like the kind of ceiling cover used on boats. try google on the boat web sites, you may find something to match/blend in
