Towards the end of 2016 it was reported in the French press that the municipal campsite "CAMPING DU CHATEAU” at BLAIN in the Loire-Atlantique region

was to be sold to a private company for €265,000. This company proposed to totally overhaul the campsite (Make it open all-year-round, install chalets, build a ’spa’, sauna and launderette, provide bicycle rental and a grocery service, improve the camping-car area, etc.) However, there was opposition to the planned sale from certain municipal council members who preferred a lease-management approach.

I don’t know what the result of the Blain council’s deliberations were, but we planned to stay for one night at the campsite last week and found it shut, obviously unmaintained and with no indication that it had changed hands.

A follow-up...

Based on the minutes of the Blain town-council’s meetings, a 2016 prospective buyer of the campsite pulled out of the deal as financing could not be arranged. The council then chose to reduce the original asking-price and a married couple based near St. Malo expressed an interest. In March 2017 the Blain council voted (21 for: 8 against) to sell the campsite to that buyer for €240,000

Assuming that the latest deal goes ahead, there is still no indication when the campsite will reopen.

The nearest alternative campsite is probably at Guémené-Penfao, about 12 miles north of Blain.
