Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the vehicle battery and vehicle ignition fuses are for on the Bca distribution box of the elddis 105 located under the bench seats?
Thanks

Your previous enquiry

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/New-Elddis-Accordo-105-Water-Battery-Meter/50790/

suggests that your ‘Brownhills-special’ Elddis Evolution 105 ’s electrical system may differ from that of the standard Accordo.

Unless a forum-member is familiar with the BCA ‘box’ fitted to your motorhome, I think you’ll need to ask Brownhills about the fuses.

(One might reasonably expect the Elddis handbook to cover this, but I couldn’t find any reference in the 2018 Accordo handbook to the BCA box nor the fuses.)

Why not pull them out and see what goes off?

Although Roger is somehow aware that the fuses he enquired about relate to his Elddis’s "vehicle battery and vehicle ignition”, as he does not know what the fuses’ actual purpose is (otherwise he would not have asked!) there’s no certainty that the effect of removing the fuses wouldl be immediately obvious.

I’m guessing that the BCA equipment looks like the unit in the 1st attached photo below, and the 2nd attached photo of a hand-drawn electrical diagram may relate to it.

The “Power Distribution Unit” is mentioned in this MHFun forum thread

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/hab-battery-not-charging-when-the-van-is-running.163003/

and shown in the 2019 BCA catalogue

https://bcagroup.co.uk/bca-brochure/files/basic-html/page14.html

It’s clearly relatively complex and (as I said in my previous posting) one might think any motorhome/caravan manufacturer that chooses to fit it would provide a buyer with adequate documentation about it.

Roger

How do you kmow that the fuses you are asking about relate to the "vehicle battery and vehicle ignition”?

Have you got Elddis (or BCA) explanatory documentation for the distribution box? If so, where did you get it from?

It’s possible that the “vehicle battery” fuse protects a 12V circuit relating to the motorhome’s starter-battery being charged by the motorhome’s on-board battery-charger, and that the “vehicle ignition” fuse relates to a circuit used to ‘recognise’ when the motohome’s motor is running - but that’s just crystal-ball gazing.

Hi,
The fuses on the distribution box are all labelled and most of them are obvious what they are. There are just these two which i can not understand.
The supplied handbook for the motorhome and the one that is downloadable on the elddis web site does not match the fuse lay out in my vehicle.
There was no suplied bca distribution box manual and i can not find one online.

What i do know is that the vehicle battey (15a) fuse had blown which stopped the fridge working on 12v.
But there is also a 20a fridge fuse! Which is confusing!

It would seem from the FAQ section on the Elddis website that the company’s expectation is that a buyer of a new Elddis Leisure-vehicle should direct questions about it to the retailer (in your case Brownhills).

http://www.elddis.co.uk/help-support/help-advice/faqs/general

There is an Elddis Owners Club

https://www.elddisowners.co.uk/contact-us

but Brownhills should be your logical first port of call about the two fuses, and you could then also ask what might have caused the 15A ‘vehicle fuse’ to fail and stop the fridge from working.

Rog,

This link is possibly where Derek got the internal wiring diagram he posted earlier from...

https://www.caravantalk.co.uk/community/gallery/image/10842-2014-coachman-pastiche-520-12v-power-distribution-unit/

If you download the image you can zoom in slightly more and identify fuses and connections. It just may hold the answer you are seeking.

Keith.

PS It seems I may be able to attach the image directly at a higher resolution than Derek did....

Hi Keith,
Yes that certainly explains the vehicle battery fuse or "car" as its shown in your diagram, and the need for the extra fridge fuse too. Still confused by the vehicle ignition fuse!
But i have a service agent from bca coming out today to look at my ongoing control panel issue so will quiz him about all this too and try and get a manual or proper circuit diagram out of them!
Thanks

It’s worth pointing out that the diagram relates to a caravan not a motorhome (hence the “car” reference).

On the diagram the reason for the two ‘fridge’ fuses seems to be

The fuse marked “Fridge (15A)” (Blue and 1st on the left of the row of fuses) protects the circuit that supplies 12V power to the fridge’s heating-element when the car’s motor is running.

The fuse marked “Fridge Ign (5A)” (Orange and 3rd fom the left of the row of fuses) protects the permanent-feed circuit that supplies 12V power to the fridge’s control-panel and to the fridge’s gas igniter.

(As the diagram relates to a 2014 caravan rather than to a 2018 motorhome, it’s quite possible that the amperage and position of the fuses may differ on your Elddis’s BCA distribution box.)

You’ll need to ask the BCA agent about the purpose of the fuse marked “Vehicle ignition”.
