Age of 'new' battery

I read comments about checking the age of a 'new' leisure battery when buying in case the battery has been in stock for some time.

Before I purchase the two leisure batteries I need what do people think is an acceptable age for a 'new' battery?

Thanks for info.

Some types of 12V battery will have a longer shelf life than others, but if you buy a popular 'ordinary’ battery from a specialised battery retailer that has a high turnover, it should be anticipated that there won’t be an ultra-long period between when the battery was manufactured and when you bought it. I’d be happy with a period of 6 months.

(Identifying a battery’s date of manufacture may prove tricky, as there’s no ‘date code’ standardisation.)
