Hi All, I am inquiring for a Motorhome friend who has just Bought a 2014 Auto Sleeper Nuevo.  but has not got any of the Info books which normally accompany the Motorhome,, he wants to know if there is anyway around the using the Water butt pump method and directly filling the fresh water with a hose pipe, ? TIA.

Hi Dennis, we had a 2011 A/S Executive with a similar, I think, infuriating Whale water filler. It may have worked OK on a caravan but it was a pain in the water butt to us. There has been a lot of discussion on various forums but my solution, as you would expect, was simple and direct and effective.

I modified the external hose fitting that attached to the outside of the van to fit onto a conventional hose with tap fittings on t'other end and then I removed all of the interior gubbins and electrics and fed the inlet hose direct from the inlet into the tank.

Job done, simples, minimal cost, no more problems or slow filling from a tap.

The only downside was that the original system could not be used on site but that was not an issue for us - nor for the guy we sold the van to!

Google something like 'whale motorhome water system problems' to see other comments.

It's probably been on here too - but I am having trouble with the search facility!!

A selection of older handbooks for Auto-Sleepers motorhomes can be found here (Peugeot Coachbuilts Archive will apply to older Nuevos)

https://www.auto-sleepers.com/owners/handbooks

There’s no specific entry for a 2014 Nuevo, but there are entries for 2012 and 2016 Nuevos and both of these show the ‘fill-from-a-container’ Whale water filling system.

As Tracker has mentioned, there was plenty of discussion about Auto-Sleepers choosing to fit this ‘caravan’ system and it might be worth browsing through this forum’s relevant threads here

https://tinyurl.com/tskc6cs

This 2015 O&AL forum thread discussed alternative methods of water-filling

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Autosleepers-water-filling-system/38931/

The thread mentions the ASOF (Auto-Sleeper Motorhome Owners Forum)

https://www.autosleeper-ownersforum.com/

and it would be worth your friend registering there as that’s where the expertise should be expected to lie regarding older AS motorhomes.

(The AS handbook for current Peugeot coachbuilt motorhomes suggests that the Whale system is still the standard filling method - but I’m not sure if that’s actually so given how much criticism there has been about it. My understanding was that, at one stage, AS would allow a buyer to opt for a conventional 'hole-in-bodywork’ water-filler instead of (or as well as?) the Whale system.)

I vaguely recall - when this came up here in the past - it being said that it was possible to connect to a tap even if a motorhome had the Whale system. This was discussed on the MHFun forum in 2020

and the Whale hose/adapter is shown on this link

Ours would fill from a tap but due to restrictions in and the design of the system it was VERY slow - just by pass it to remove the slowness!
